Prefer original style gates
Prob fine for dogs but I didn’t love this gate for baby proofing. I find the mechanism annoying and dangerous and prefer an older style where the gate just closes in one step and opens with one push of the fingers. This is two steps and I cannot rely on my children to put the gate back in the correct position.

Narrow walk thru part
I like that it seems lightweight for the top of the stairs but still sturdy. However we didn’t use this on top of the stairs bc the walk thru part was quite narrow. Honestly, holding a baby and squeezing thru a narrow space on top of the stairs is NOT SAFE OR IDEAL. I told my husband I can see myself falling from the top of the stairs while I try to balance myself and squeeze thru the narrow opening while holding our baby. Also, I am not a large person, just that with the baby, her legs seems to hit the side of the gate. We ended up using it for our bedroom door which is right next to the stairs.

All the good reviews here were collected as part of a promotion- this gate is trash, will not stay up and if you have baseboards it is completely useless as it will have to be elevated to work and will not be flush. Wish I could return.

Watch Out For Measurements
It doesn't actually fit the size it says it will. The opening we have is 33" and it wouldn't fit properly with or without the extender. Now I can't even get the gate back in the box. Make sure your measurements aren't close to the minimum or maximum or else it might not fit for you either.

Buster the bulldog
My new dog is 7 months old and huge! However, he is still a baby and is getting used to our home. While cleaning up one day I could not find him anywhere downstairs and panicked. I made my way up the stairs and he was frozen in the stairwell. Trying to get him down was a task because he was mortified and super heavy. This baby gate is extremely sturdy and adjustable (he cannot push it over)! It’s just what we needed to keep him out of trouble.

My 1yo figured out the gate in less than a minute.
My 1yo patiently waited for me to install one at the top of the staircase. Then he watched me install the second one in my doorway that won’t latch. Then I took him out of his Pack-and-Play. He calmly walked over, lifted the handle and opened the gate, to enter my room. I FaceTimed my mom so she could watch. …Then my mischievous munchkin giggled maniacally and raced me to the staircase. I don’t know if my kid is smart, the gate engineers are stupid, or if I just installed the gate improperly. Maybe all 3?

I wanted to love this, but it did not work for us. I got it for the top of our stairs. We are renting so I used the pressure mount. When I got the gate tight enough so it wouldn’t wiggle, the door was unable to open. And when I loosened it just enough so the door could open, the gate was much too wiggly, I was worried for my little ones safety. I tried using it at the bottom of the stairs to see if it would make a difference but it just didn’t seem sturdy enough. Just feels cheaply made, especially for the price. I returned it.

Read the directions. This gate is very easy and quick to install and it holds very well. But if you don’t read the directions you will think your gate is broken. It’s not. Just follow the directions.

A favorite!
This is one of my almost one year old's favorites! He loves moving the door back and forth, pulling up on it, stepping back and forth over the gate, jumping up and down while holding on to it, the list goes one... It has held up perfectly to all of his beatings with toys and excitedly shaking it back and forth. Well shaking himself, since the gate doesn't budge. It has really grown with him as he's aged. We now have to use the secondary red lock, when needed, since opening and closing the top latch is currently a favorite activity. We ended up ordering another to use at the bottom of our stairs. I'd highly recommend!

This item came bent, so I need to waste my time returning it. Not good for a small dog, as the bars aren't that close. My wall is 34inches and it doesn't fit right. The extensions are either too short or too long.
