Q: Are these plugs made with soft plastic? Other brands made of hard plastic can break and leave a prong in the wall which requires a electrician for removal.

A:Â I asked the original 'hard plastic' question. Long ago I purchased some Safety 1st socket protectors and they were made from soft plastic which is advantageous in cold environments because the the prongs do not freeze/harden like other brands with hard plastic do. I have broken others, leaving the prong stuck in the wall which necessitated an electrician visit just to remove the broken prong. I use the protectors on the exterior wall outlets to block the inflow of cold air in frigid weather. The soft plastic prongs do not break off even in cold temps.

Check for security after installation. Your child will eventually be able to defeat this product. To keep this product effective for as long as possible, avoid letting children see how you operate child safety devices. These plug protectors fit standard plugs and work just fine. Baby has touched them a bit but gave up quickly. I like that they are clear as well. Definitely recommend for a newly-moving baby and toddler! Having a pack of 36 was just right for covering outlets in baby's room, living room, etc. with more as they gain access to more areas of the house.

I have a cat that likes to rub his cheeck on the outlets once inawhile (yes, cats are weird and this is how they mark things) and every time he did this it made me cringe worrying about him getting a shock. These are a great solution, easy in and easy out if you need to use the wall outlet. There are a gazillion in a package, so you can use them all over the house. I wish they were more solid white vs. semi transparent, but they are attractive, sturdy and get the job done.
