A: Thank you for your question. Our Multi-Purpose Appliance Latch is not recommended on over doors due to the heat. We recommend searching for over locks, as those are available and made specifically to be used with the heat.

Q: I was hoping the video would show, but it's not helpful. How do you actually latch and unlatch this? How easy is it for adults?
submitted by Old School - 7 months ago
A: Thank you for your question! Our Safety 1st OutSmart Multi-Use Lock should be pretty easy for an adult to use. There is an image on the listing that shows the lock on a fridge and a hand touching the lock - this photo depicts the area in which you press the buttons. There is a place on the top and bottom that you would press simultaneously together to unlock, while the center "button" is the decoy (looks like a button but does nothing).

Q: When no longer needed, how do you remove the adhesive residue?
submitted by MyTGuy - 2 years ago
A: That's an excellent question! Thanks for choosing us! The best methods for removal are applying heat from a blow dryer to loosen the adhesive in conjunction running floss back and forth. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Consumer Care team at 800-544-1108.

Q: Would this work on a microwave (on bumpy road in RV, glass turntable pushed door open and snake shed on floor!)
submitted by Judy - 3 years ago
A: Hello! Thank you for your question. Yes, this multi-use lock can be used on a microwave.

Q: How long is the strap?
submitted by Faith - 5 years ago
A: Hi there. Thank you for your question. The strap itself is approximately 4.5" and the overall length of the whole this measures approximately 8".
I loved the concept behind the item, the adhesive unfortunately doesn't stick for long. My 1 year old ripped it right off.

Loved the concept…but
I loved the concept, but unfortunately the adhesive just didn't hold up and my two year old ripped it off after a couple of days. I need something strong for our sliding back door.

In theory great.....as long as the adhesive sticks....
In theory this is a great idea.... but if the adhesive doesn't stick they are useless. I installed these in lazy Susan corner cabinets, and worked great for to secure the motion this type of cupboard. Too bad the the most important feature of the product failed, the adhesive.

Nice idea, but
It's a good idea. I installed it on my fridge. Useless after two weeks. The adhesive didn't hold, so I replaced it, as I had purchased a two-pack. Second one lasted a week. Since the plastic under the adhesive isn't solid, it can't be glued on.

quick fix
It has a flexible strap for custom fit. It was so easy to install and pivots out of the way for periods of non-use. The decoy button even confuses the grandparents. I feel very safe using this is my house!!!

Decoy lock is great
This lock was great and was easy to install. The fake button was a great touch and instantly drew my little ones eyes. It was a great addition to our baby proofing plan

disregard my previous review
Disregard my previous review. It was my 'operator' error. I look at the pic to install instead of applying my critical thinking skills. Just put the push button release on the side of the fridge....problem solved. My bad. It's a great product

Solid lock
The Safety 1st Outsmart Multi-Use Lock is a solid door lock. It's a great option for refrigerator and freezer doors, especially if you have littles like mine who love to open but not fully close the fridge and freezer. The decoy button is genius. I really like that the static side had a hinge so that the lock didn't have to stick out when not in use. The only teeny tiny design detail I didn't love is that because of the side of the door I had to put the lock on, the Safety 1st logo was upside down. I wish it had the logo on each side so that one side was always right side up. *Note: I received this product to test through Stellar Product Testing Panel.*

Buy extra adhesive
I really love the concept of this product but the adhesive didn't last 2 days even after following all the directions. Is there a way to order replacement adhesive?

I would highly recommend this item to friends and clients!
I have been using this product professionally and personally for over a month now. Within my own home, I use it to keep my forever snacking toddler out of the pantry. It is great! It has even deterred my husband from snacking before dinner because the decoy button tricked him too! Bonus! I work in the autism field and we are always working on having our learners communicate with their parents/guardians for their wants and needs. Many of our clients have out smarted the child proof products around. I have shared with item with 5 families already. My clients are now asking again rather than having a free access to the pantry.

Decent appliance lock
The lock was easy to install and did work very well in keeping my 18 month old out of the dishwasher. She's never really tried to unlock it, but the decoy button is a clever design that will probably give us a few more months of use once she tries to remove it. It definitely is an effective child proofer! The negatives for me are the limited uses and the adhesive. I can't think of how I would use this lock outside of appliances. I probably wouldn't use it for cabinets, primarily because of the adhesive. We've used this brand with this adhesive before, and the adhesive is so hard to remove. Even using the recommended dental floss trick, I spent hours removing chunks of adhesive and residue. I didn't really have another option for our dishwasher though, so it does its job! I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for an unbiased review.

Amazingly genius !!
The multi - use lock is perfect for use around my home! My child is facinated by the decoy button and is stumped when she tries to unlock it herself! Very high quality product all the way down to the packaging. Thank you for coming up with this brilliant idea, Safety 1st!

My 19 month old figured it out!
We put this device on our dishwasher so my 19 month old would stop opening it up and crawling up on it. She walked over to it and unlocked it like it was nothing.

I would definitely buy this again! I've purchased 10 alread!
I absolutely love this lock! The design is perfect as it can be used on so many different things! I went out and bought more for all of our cabinets, fridge, and doors! It works perfectly to keep our laundry room doors closed to keep our kiddo and dog out! It's easy for us to unlatch but strong enough our kiddo can't unlatch it! It's so easy to install it took us less than 2 minutes to install it! I received the product from the stellar product testing panel and will definitely be buying more for the rest of our house! So far we've used this model on all of our kitchen cabinets, our fridge, and our doors in our living/kitchen!

Great Design
This was very easy to install and worked great. We used this on our refrigerator and the decoy button kept our 4 year old from opening the door.

Great idea but adhesive is weak
I put this lock on our oven because my 2 year old has been pulling it open while things are baking inside. It was easy to install and doesn't look too obtrusive (for a child safety lock), and both my 2 and 4 year old were stumped by the decoy button. Hard to say if the oldest would figure it out with time, so you might want to shield their view with your hand when opening. But unfortunately, the adhesive already popped off after just one day. I haven't turned the oven on yet but did use the stove, so maybe it was the heat, or it doesn't adhere well to metal and glass. I stuck it back on but don't expect it to last long, especially if (when) my toddler tries to pull open the door. So be aware that it may not adhere well to certain materials and/or heat may cause it to come off. It might be better suited to a simple cupboard door. I received this product for free from the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest review.
