Within the first 2 minutes of powering on go to the Bluetooth setting on your smart device and pair with "Hearth & Hand 09". If you do not pair with the lantern within the first 2 minutes of powering it on, you must turn the lantern off and then back on in order to put the lantern back into pairing mode. The ascending tones mean the lantern is powered on. The triple chime means pairing and the red LED flashes. The double chime and the red LED turning off means it is paired. The Hearth & Hand Portable LED Table Lantern battery length can vary based upon use. The battery can last 6 hours with the light at medium strength and without using the Bluetooth Speaker. It can last 10 hours on the light's dimmest setting without using the Bluetooth Speaker. Once the light and the Bluetooth Speaker are being used the battery time will definitely shorten, but the volume you choose for the speaker will factor the length of time. The louder the speaker the less time it will last. Environmental conditions like very hot or cold temperatures can also impact how efficiently the battery performs. To get the longest use between charges we recommend keeping the lantern in a well-ventilated space, and avoiding exposure to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight. In my at home test the light was on the brightest setting and the Bluetooth speaker was on at about 65% volume and it lasted over 3 hours. We hope this information helps! The large tag that comes on the lantern, which serves as the user manual, says "Safety · Do not use near any water source · Do not modify or repair this device · Do not use in high temperatures or extreme weather · Do not use chemical detergents to clean your device, use a soft dry cloth". So, the lantern can be used outside and is indeed intended for this along with indoor uses, but it cannot get wet and it should not be used in high temperatures or extreme weather. I took mine camping and kept it in the camper except for when I was using it outside, and I kept it out of direct sunlight for long periods of time so that it would not overheat. It worked great and we really enjoyed the light and the music. We hope this information helps!
