About the Author



Robert K. Maloney, M.D., M.A. (Oxon), is managing partner of the Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute in West Los Angeles, California. Dr. Maloney was the first eye surgeon in western North America to perform LASIK surgery, as part of the original FDA clinical trials. Dr. Maloney has trained more than 1,000 surgeons in the use of the excimer laser and has personally performed more than 65,000 vision correction surgeries. He was voted by his peers one of America's top ten vision correction specialists in a nationwide survey conducted by Ophthalmology Times. Neda Shamie, M.D., is a renowned LASIK, cataract, and corneal surgeon, and partner of the Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute in West Los Angeles, California. She previously was the medical director of the Doheny Eye Institute and is a clinical professor of ophthalmology at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Arjan Hura, M.D., is a fellowship-trained cataract, refractive, and anterior segment surgeon at the Maloney Shamie Vision Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Hura graduated from The Ohio State University with a dual-degree and obtained his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine where he also received a Master of Science Degree in Physiology. Dr. Hura previously practiced at the Cleveland Eye Clinic and Clear Choice Custom LASIK Center where he performed advanced cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK and SMILE, implantable contact lenses (ICL), and corneal cross-linking.
