Description

About the Book

Women, this is a journey toward freedom as we learn to experience Christ-centered empowerment-not by believing in ourselves . . . but by trusting in our faithful God. Becky devotes chapters to the most common messages promoted by our culture and gives readers dependable biblical truths grounded in the gospel:

  • Believe in Your God vs. Believe in Yourself
  • Speak THE truth vs. Speak Your Truth
  • Follow Your King vs. Follow Your Heart
  • You Be His vs. You Be You
  • And so much more!

We will be lifted of the burden to find strength in ourselves and reassured of the hope, joy, and power that comes from living in Christ. We don't have to be the savior of our own stories.

Contrary to what you've been told, true female empowerment doesn't start with a woman. It starts with a man, and His name is Jesus Christ. --Becky Beresford

Book Synopsis

Our culture has been lying to women. The world defines female empowerment as believing in yourself or looking within to find the power to succeed. But what happens when women grow weary from trying to do it all? Jesus offers a better way.

Becky Beresford used to believe and even promoted some of society's lies to women. But in God's kindness, Becky came to the end of herself and embraced healing truth found in the Bible.

Tired and frustrated with self-dependence, Becky wants to be God-dependent. In She Believed HE Could So She Did, Becky invites you to join her as she dismantles commonly held misconceptions and lies so we can live in real freedom and godly confidence.

This is a brave journey toward freedom as we learn to experience Christ-centered empowerment-not by believing in ourselves . . . but by trusting in our faithful God.

You Be You
  • The Future is Found Together vs. The Future is Female
  • And so much more!

Together we will discover how to rely on the Holy Spirit in order to battle cultural lies, put the enemy in his place, and live boldly for Jesus.

Becky Beresford’s She Believed He Could, So She Did is a powerful, truth filled book on how we find true freedom in Christ alone. I felt like I can breathe a sigh of relief as Becky reminds us how we can depend on God for strength in our lives and not exhaust ourselves to do it on our own. Her book is an encouraging, Christ-centered book on how we can put our ultimate hope in God.

Brokenness

From out of the gates, Becky led me to reflect on how brokenness and humility is what has drawn me to others and allowed me to connect with people. Conversely, the friends that don’t let their guard down and seem to be striving are harder to get to know and seem to keep a wall up. This writing is so good to remind me that it is the LORD’s work in our lives, not of ourselves, and it is for His glory that we can “do” those things we set our hearts towards.

Becky challenges with TRUTH!

Becky challenges all of us--but women, in particular--to face the popular messages that are rampant in our culture today and calls us to hold them up to God's Word for validation or rejection. She reminds us where ultimate power and authority come from and helps us remember that our war is not against flesh and blood but against the dark forces of this world. When we recognize who our real Enemy is and what this war is about, we will also recognize that we have no power and authority in and of ourselves, and we will gladly submit ourselves to Christ and live our lives under HIS power and authority. And it is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of wisdom. Thank you for writing this important book, Becky!

Timely biblical truths to combat self-empowerment lies

“She Believed HE Could, So She Did” takes readers on a journey toward true freedom by learning to experience Christ-centered empowerment—not by believing in yourself, but by trusting in our faithful God. Becky addresses the most common self-empowerment messages promoted by our culture—messages such as “You are enough,” “You be you,” “Speak your truth,” and “Believe in yourself”—and provides relevant biblical truths grounded in the gospel to refute them. The title “She Believed HE Could, So She Did” reveals the catalyst of this deep dive into the foundation of culture’s self-empowerment messages—readers learn what a difference ONE word can make in separating truth from folly. Messages like these are attractive, but by digging deeper into scripture, Becky identifies why they are ultimately cultural lies that trap us in a cycle of striving. As someone who once found myself drawn to some of these mantras before recognizing the tug of the Holy Spirit to re-examine them, I appreciate how Becky makes a clear case for why these popular beliefs ultimately don’t align with biblical principles. She guides readers to dissect these messages in detail and view each component through the lens of scripture. She also provides readers with practical ways to apply and live out gospel truths through the limitless transforming power of Christ. The timely message of “She Believed HE Could, So She Did” is vital and relevant for today’s Christian women seeking scriptural tools to help them embrace Christ-centered empowerment vs. worldly self-empowerment. After reading this book, you will be equipped with a clear biblical perspective for discussions on this pertinent and prominent topic.

Excellent and a breath of fresh air

This book is awesome. Really gets the wheels in your head turning on how even the most "empowering" messages of today are really just a message that "you can do it!.. so do more, be more, conquer it ALL-- and burn yourself into the ground." Merit-based and exhausting. This book offers a whole new perspective! The author is a really good writer, and the message is both uplifting & relieving to weary women's souls. Will be buying as a gift for friends!

When life gets a little chaotic, it’s not uncommon to be subtly misled by our culture’s lies. We might start feeling the weight of the world on our shoulders and mistakenly believe everything depends on us. Or maybe we feel like the success of our future completely depends on us, so we can’t seem to let go of control. But when we buy into this, we miss out on the real truth that God has a good plan for our lives, and He promises never to leave us. If you’ve ever found yourself let down by the wisdom of the world, Becky’s book powerfully guides us to true, Christ-centered empowerment. Don’t let yourself be worn down any longer—find hope here!

Freeing & needed message for today's Christian woman!

I really appreciate Becky's honest, brave book confronting today's cultural lies for believers. It's easy to let the world's messages creep into your thinking (and even the church) without noticing, bombarded by signs, talks, and Instagram influencers. One of my favorite chapters is "Speak your truth" vs. the biblical "Share your story, but speak THE truth." She recognizes the importance of sharing our stories, but going beyond that for true healing and hope. Becky writes, "...sharing our stories is not *the* transforming agent in our healing...Abiding in the Word and knowing the truth sets us free! It isn't my truth or any other person's truth that brings the freedom our souls crave." I also love the chapters that talk about the realities of spiritual warfare. I would recommend this book to young women, new believers, and seasoned believers of any age who need their thinking challenged. This book offers hope, encouragement, and practical steps. It's freeing to know my faith walk doesn't depend on me!

I have been LOVING this book! It has such a powerful and needed message. As someone who has spent a lot of time in the personal development world, I appreciate that Becky really takes the time to use scripture and share WHY many of the beliefs actually don't hold up. Rather than just throwing everything out, it's as though she offers the compassion and understanding of why those messages like "You are enough" sound good, and then goes further to share something even better and more true "CHRIST is enough." I love the personal stories included and how she is always pointing the reader to Christ. Such an important message. Plus it's also well-written and easy to pick up and read in bigger chunks or in small moments, which is often what I get as a busy mom. I've even kept it in the bathroom to read instead of scrolling on my phone. :)

This book came at just the right time for me as I’m entering some new endeavors out fo my comfort zone. I'm finding courage in the truth of the gospel and strength in the presence of the Holy Spirit in the book’s message. It points out the difference between true empowerment by our Creator God and the world’s half-truths of self-empowerment. I needed this message right now and I think every woman could use this kond of encouragement.

It's easy to keep swimming along as we always have, letting the current wash over us without a second thought. But every once in a while, something will splash us awake! "She Believed He Could So She Did" is just such a book. In it, Becky explores many of our culture's most popular sayings, and reading her words will make you think more deeply and be more discerning about the culture around you. In Part 1, each chapter tackles a different saying such as "You can do hard things" and "You be you" and "Believe in yourself" then examines it in the light of biblical truth. Each chapter ends with a story from a different woman who shares her experience of that truth. In Part 2, each chapter focuses on a practical ways we can live out these biblical truths. Even if you come to different conclusions, this book is worth reading for how it will make you think more deeply and be more discerning about the culture around you. I can see how it would make for a lively small group discussion among friends or at church!

The Stories are Priceless!

One of the best parts of this book are the stories of other women. Story-telling and story-sharing are so powerful. We need to keep sharing so the thread of faith continues through our generation. I was thrilled to see the many real-life women's perspectives in this beautiful book. As an added bonus, the author includes discussion questions for each chapter at the back of the book, so groups can easily study together, and keep the sharing going!

Trusting in God's Sufficiency is the Path to Abundant Life

One of the most life-giving practices we can embrace as believers is replacing the lies with truth. We are constantly bombarded by messages in culture that are misleading and unbiblical. Becky exposes them one by one, going back to the Word to reveal what is true so we can ground ourselves securely in Christ. We can finally stop trying to prove that we are enough and walk in the freedom Jesus bought with His blood on the cross. She Believed He Could So She Did has helped me lay down my striving to rest in God, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is weary, burdened, or wants to deepen their walk with Christ.
