I bought this machine about 7-8 years ago. It took a little bit to learn how the machine operates but it was so very worth it. I currently have a Baby Lock Triumph but that is only due to the air threading and if a thread breaks you didn’t have to rethread the entire machine. Other than that i think this singer Serger takes the cake on it’s beautiful seams and the knife cuts like butter giving your finished edge that sleek look. If they made this machine in an air threaded model i would so buy it again. I really dread using my baby lock bc it just doesn’t come out nearly as clean and smooth. Lesson learned.

I purchased this machine in September 2023. I am fully self taught on sewing. I purchased the 5 thread machine because I thought down the road I may need to use 5 threads. I received the machine in September 2023 & didn’t take it out of the box till November. Once you understand how to thread the machine it’s simple. Singer has taken the guess work out of the tension settings. This machine saves hours of sewing with the single needle machine. This serger has made me a better sewing person & has boosted my confidence. I also own the Singer HD 6800C the two make a great pair. I also didn’t get the free feet as a perk but, did get a bonus Iron. Do not be intimidated by this unit. It is simple

I purchased this machine in September of 2023. Didn’t open the box until November. I have never used a serger & am still learning a lot about this machine but I am very glad I purchased the 5 thread machine. It took a while to learn the threading & different ways to use this machine but now it’s simple. Singer took all the guess work out of the tension & threading once you understand how to do it it’s simple. I love the machine.

I've made everything from curtains to a wedding dress using this machine. It is quickly becoming my go-to machine. When I purchased this about 6 months ago, I was new to sergers and there was a learning curve both threading and learning all this machine has to offer. Singer did a great job with the manual and accompanying workbook! My prior review was deleted-I believe it was getting negative feedback. Fact: this is not a beginner "throw in a bobbin and spool" and your off machine. If you're struggling, be patient, don't give up--you will be rewarded. This machine can do it all. (For anyone thinking I'm too negative: I am a loyal Singer enthusiast owning 4 machines from a basic for travel to embroidery).

It's a great serger, I bought this one for my mother, it was a little complicated at first but it was easy to understand once we got to know the functions. Personally I have never used a serger before, but with the help of my mother's knowledge it took me a day to figure most of it out. It would really helpful if singer could send a CD or online video tutorial link that a person can go to to learn the features. The manual was not very helpful. But serger works great

Started using my new Pro5 serger little over a week ago. I'm already envisioning the garments and household items I can make. This is my first serger and it was intimidating out of the box. I've owned several sewing machines and one embroidery but I've never seen anything like this. Like a lot of other first timers I looked for help on social media but didn't find any learning shortcuts so I turned to the workbook that comes with the machine. The workbook has been very helpful although I did find an error on a tension setting -- so play with the tension settings as you practice/learn. For other first timers like me, take your time, familiarizing yourself with the manual, label key pages for quick reference. I also labeled everything on the machine. Maybe a little overkill but it's only been a week and I can already take off some of the labels. It really helped with the learning curve. So far I've practiced every day trying different stitches and actually made a few household items. Don't give up. Be patient. Another tip I'm finding useful is to make notes in the manual or workbook when fine tuning tension. There are so many stitches and options. I don't know why I waited so long to purchase a serger.

Pro 5 Serger -- Excellent Machine

I waited a long time for Singer to get the Pro 5 Serger back in stock. I have a 14CG754 and an S0100 serger, so I was only going to use the Pro 5 for overstitching. It turns out that the Pro 5 is such a solid, easily threaded machine that I have not used either of the other sergers since. I guess I might sell them. The Pro 5 has a little switch type thing to thread the lower and cover loopers that makes threading them a breeze. You also do not have to search through your gear to find the spreader when you are not using the upper looper because it is attached to the upper looper. The best feature is probably the automatic tension setter. You look up the stitch you are using and set the dial to the number. Furthermore, the lookup table is printed on the machine. You can tweak the tension, but I have not had to. The Pro 5 is the only serger you need.

Since 2009 I have had a love hate relationship with my Huskylocks15. I was hesitant going from a 4 thread to a 5 thread worried about the love hate relationship again. I followed the suggestions in reviews by experienced seamstresses and read the manual and workbook prior to the machines arrival. I chose this machine because I mainly sew extremely thick material and the machine is designed with a higher presser foot. I was also drawn to the automatic tension adjustment, since that seemed to be the main cause of my love hate relationship with my Husqvarna machine. Since recieving the machine, my production has improved tremendously! I have gad 2 issues so far. 1. needle broke, which was my fault. 2. somehow thread got stuck between the needle plate and feed dog. Absolutely no idea how I did it, wasn't easy to remove, but that's it. I sew multiple layers of fleece, flannel sometimes felt and a rubbery fabric. I am loving machine!

A great machine that does so much! But it does take some practice to get going, especially threading the loopers. The directions could be a little clearer in the manual, I relied on some YouTube videos for extra help. However, once I got it right, the stitches are beautiful, I did not need to adjust anything so far, and I am sure I will get years of use from it. I took off one star for the lack of clarity in the manual.

My first serger was the Singer Quantum 5-thread, I purchased about 27 years ago. Still works like a charm. I decided to purchase a second serger and I must say, this was a great purchase. I had no doubt, because Singer has always been the best. My grandmother's was the Singer push pedal in the old days. The professional continues to live up to Singer's great name. The professional is beautiful in style, stitches, reliability and great work. I love this machine and although it is not a self threader, the threading system is far easier than my Quantum, but now I have two great sergers that will last me a lifetime. I just love the cover stitch feature. No more doing cover stitches the old fashion way again. I'm a proud brand loyal user of Singer products and always will be.

Sorry it took so long to write this review but this "serger" is a bit more complicated than any of the other sergers I have owned. Unlike my husband, who reads the instructions after he puts something together, I took the time to read the supplied hard copy Instruction Book before I even fired up the machine. I was surprised by how heavy the machine is and I'm glad that the carry handle is so sturdy. I appreciate that the machine was already set up for the Triple Cover Stitch. This setup made it very easy to move on to the Double Chain Stitch settings. The Double Chain Stitch setting had a lot to do with why I purchased the 14T968DC. I quilt on a longarm frame and often have to add a fabric skirting to my backing to be able to have the buffer I need to easily place the section to be quilted in the right area. For years I have been basting these fabric extensions and then pulling threads to remove the skirts after I finish quilting. Now I can use the Chain Stitch to attach the skirting and easily pull the lower looper thread to quickly remove the stitching and get on to binding the finished project. I have not used all the stitches yet but I do not see a problem as long as I keep the Instruction Book by my side. My next project will be to edge some of my old wash cloths that will become cleaning rags.
