A very versatile and useful lens. Sharp, fast, flexible with excellent image quality. It's a reasonable size and weight too, a nice portable package.

I BOUGHT THIS SONY 100-400mm LENS A FEW WEEKS AGO & AM I GLAD I DIDNT OPT. FOR A CHEAPER BRAND. IT HAS GOOD SHARPNESS, GREAT FEATURES WITH OSS MULTI FOCUS HOLD BUTTONS & GOOD BOKEH. THE ONLY DRAWBACK THAT I CAN SEE IS THE WEIGHT, BUT ITS A LOT OF GLASS

just getting to know but at this stage is looking quite good. but there is a little bit of weight issue as this is a piece of solid Glass

barely a month old and already has dust on the inside of the lens affecting picture quality. Major regret buying this, i didn't go second hand as i didn't want dust in such a expensive lens... May as well have saved myself the money.

It has replaced the 70-200 as my favourite lens. Not too heavy, plenty of reach, lovely bokeh. I bought it for travelling, wildlife and sports. I had been keeping an eye on the price and when I saw it was on special I grabbed one. I am really enjoying learning to use it. The extending zoom takes a bit of getting used to.

Great lens, I’m on a learning curve with it but I’m getting more right than wrong. The picture quality is amazing and focus is super quick.

Traded in my Tamron 150-500 on this lens, as I was unhappy with the autofocus of the Tamron with the Sony a7R5. With the new Sony lens I seldom miss focus. So a good decision. The Sony 100-400 would be improved by including a zoom lock switch. It does have a variable friction setting, but even on the tight setting the lens extends as I walk around. The other concern, echoing many others, is the lack of an arca compatible mount on the lens foot. I have yet to see any justification for this omission.

Does exactly as it says it does, works well, would recommend

The 100-400GM is the lens I’ve used the most since I bought it a couple of years ago. It has been a perfect match for me. The zoom range provides incredible flexibility, allowing me to shoot wildlife, sports, landscapes, and even city scenes effortlessly. Plus, it delivers outstanding sharpness, making it an essential part of my gear.

Lightning fast and very sharp; I only have one minor moan: the focus limiters are very easy to engage, using back button focus they are totally unnecessary and are best disabled otherwise a stunning lens.

Needed a longer zoom lens, and after doing a lot of checking with other makes, weight, size, price and other reviews, decided on this 100-400mm. Glad i did, very fast focusing, lovely smooth zooming in and out and not too heavy, even with a vertical grip, was able to do hand held shoots. Picture quality was excellent.

This lens is fantastic and so versitile and probably the most versitle lens you can buy, its very sharp and paired with the a9ii and the a1 it gives exceptional results, the best thing it has a minum focus rage of 1mtr so for semi macro especially butterflies which are notoriously difficult to get close to this lens is a game changer as well as the reach for wildlife with 400mm

I brought the 100-400 G Master so I could get closer to animal subjects without spooking them, I didn’t realise this lens was gonna be so sharp though! I havnt taken it off my camera since I’ve got it in the mail 🤣

Excellent build quality. High quality construction. Not as heavy as I thought it would be, which is good. Has three assignable buttons one can use in portrait/landscape orientations. Detachable foot. Slide door on hood enabling access when wanting to adjust circular polarizing filter--all very practical. The focus ring is buttery smooth, as is the focal length adjustment ring--very good for video use. The optical image stabilization works seamlessly on my A7RIII. At 400mm, I have been able to take sharp images hand held at 1/80th of a second shutter speed. The lens is very very sharp at all focal lengths, which is why I said "Why Buy the 70-200 GM When You Can Have the 100-400GM?" If you need a telephoto zoom for portraits in low light, this is not your lens. But I feel very comfortable saying this lens would make an excellent portrait lens in studio and outdoors in good lighting. Don't forget 400mm at 5.6 isolates the subject and blows out the background just as well as 135mm or 200mm at f/2.8. No need to worry so much a HSS to get that effect, either.
