Fantastic Little Camera

Makes a great holiday camera, especially if you use the electronic zoom and also map the picture format to C1 for easy access. With all the additional megapixels available to you on this camera using the electronic zoom and picture formats doesn't totally degrade your images. I shoot SOOC for ease of use especially when on my travels.

Sony RX1R II

Absolutely gem of a camera even though it was released in the US in 2016. Camera is still so incredibly relevant and just a masterpiece much like Sony’s Signature products.

Point n’ Shoot at its best

I don’t use it for my professional work, but for casual shooting, this camera is the best today’s technology can provide. A perfect balance between image quality and size. I bought it mainly for the 200mm focal range, and let me tell you, the final images that come out it are almost comparable to some of the professional cameras out there! Remember, it’s only 1-inch sensor! Yes, you have all those computational techs today, but optical performance is something of a luxury to pursue and for people who are serious about digital imaging. I have used it along with my RX1RM2 for all my day-to-day shooting cravings in the past few months. I can get so much more from its RAW files than the ProRaw on my iPhone. Overall, very satisfied with this camera!

tiny tank

I sold all my photo gear last year and I really miss not having a quality camera. In my search RX1R ll caught my eye. Small, light with the bells and whistle's of larger cameras. I'm still going through the testing faze, so far so good.

Autofocus blocks. Firmware still at Version 1.0

Every here and then the autofocus stops working and seems blocked. Internet search states that many other users have exactly the same problem. Sony obviously doesn't take the complaints serious. The firmware is still at Version 1.0. There would be at least some features to be renewed. For example the poor functions for changing the storage names of picture files.etc. Maybe the developers are proud to never have changed the firmware. My, my.

Love the Low Light

When I got this camera in the summer, it was a hot steamy evening. So being near the coast we went for a walk on the beach. I took a few shots in the dark, and wow ! it captured pictures where being almost totally dark, never had a camera that worked in such low light, very pleased and impressed.

Not the II, but...

I have had the original RX1 for many years now. The image quality to this day is absolutely outstanding. The downsides are the viewfinder, auto-focus, and the battery life. I understand the focus, and the viewfinder are greatly improved with the II. I am holding off on replacing my trusty I because I keep hearing rumors about a III which might be 40mm and f1.8.....hoping that is right around the corner

My favorite camera!

I've shot with Sony cameras starting in 2012 with their NEX-5n. I moved to the a7 in 2014, then the a7II and the a7rIII. I found a good deal on an RX1 and loved the idea of a small point and shoot with a full frame sensor. I loved it so much and it quickyl became my go to camera. I bought the RX1RII becasue of the updated hybrid autofocus system that is snappy and much improved from the first version. The popup EVF is much nicer than having to attach to the hotshoe like the older version. This is my favorite camera, it gives me joy to use each time I pick it up. It goes everywhere with me!

Superb... with professional specifications

This is the purchase of my second unit of this generation, having had the previous iterations: RX1 and the RX1R too. This is a camera that I'm already very familiar with for professional applications and delivery of top quality image files. The only draw-back is poor battery life, but the solution to that is to have multiple batteries. First rate camera, excellent build quality and excellent value for money too!

Still the best!

Had the RX1 now owning the RX1R II which makes life a lot easier because of the faster AF and the build-in EVF. The Megapixels are a welcome addition. Best thing though: they kept the ZEISS Sonnar 35/2 which still is one of my alltime favorites. I use it mostly always wide open. The Bokeh transition is unbelievable. I shoot the RX alongside my Nikon Z7 but the 35 and Its compact form factor makes it the perfect reportage camera. People are just reacting differently to it. Was thinking about the Q2 but 28mm is just not my cup of tea. One more thing: had my cameras through really bad weather, beaches and hot kitchens and never had a problem. Who needs Weather sealing, if you not drain your cameras?

Legendary Camera - please update to RX1R III now!

I have the Sony RX1, the RX1R m1 and m2 but this camera needs two things to make it the best compact full frame ever made: 1) better AF (use the latest A7 or A9 tech) and 2) better battery (use the Sony Z battery if possible). Sony can leave the sensor and lens alone because they are exceptionally good. Just those two changes, Sony, and you will have a legendary full frame compact that will be better than the Leica Q2.

A Great Walking Around Camera

This is my go to camera. When traveling I always take my RX1RII. On major trips, it's in the bag with my a7RII. Although you're stuck with a fixed 35mm lens, it is a fabulous point & shot camera and much easier to carry around than my a7. I love the low light capability and the image quality of this little camera. One photographer called it a great street camera....I couldn't agree more. It is expensive, but in my opinion, if you can afford it...get it! You will fall in love with it!

Impressive resolution

Impressed by reviews, I sold 2 Panasonic cameras and lenses to purchase this one. I actually like a fixed focal length, and 35mm is my preferred choice. I am also an admirer of Zeiss optics. Image resolution is excellent. I find, however, that there are too many features and an over complicated menu system. I prefer the Leica approach to features and menus, but the Q is not for me. However, one can reduce the need to access the main menu but assigning functions to various keys - excellent. The EVF is a delight.

great cameras but expect much better quality price

i have had a bunch of sony cameras, from the NEX series to the RX100 to the A7 and now the RX1R ii. None of the cheaper models i had lasted too long but they were much cheaper with this camera i expect better, "professional" quality as sony calls it. the image quality is very nice no doubt but some of the controls feel subpar for this price. Flimsy control wheels etc. now the EVF simply stopped working for now particular reason. For this price a three year lifespan is just embarrassing .

A Leica Q killer, ultimate point n shoot.

So, I finally got my camera on the last day of 2018. Technically, it’s a piece of tech that’s three years old. In terms of the tech world, it’s like three decades... or really? I’ll start with the ‘dislikes’: 1. This camera is really really expensive! For a fixed lens camera, only Leica Q can match its price tag. But hey, it’s Leica! That red dot along would worth a fortune. 2. The camera makes you feel like a piece of expensive jewelry in your palm, so be careful while walking with it in the Street. Any dent or scratch will definitely break your heart! 3. Hungry for batteries. Youd better prepare two extra batteries to carry out serious shooting sessions. 4. Not weather resistant Above are all the complaints I have for it. But here comes to ‘likes’: 1. The near medium format image quality right in your palm. Yes, the image quality is stunning! I have to admit this camera is not for rookie photographers and, to bring out the distinctive power, you’d better obtain some degree of post-processing knowledge in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop. But as long as I start shooting with this little baby, I am kissing goodbye to my old full frame DSLRs and lens. With its Dynamic Range of 13.9 ev at ISO 50, it easily beats the latest Leica M10 which is almost one full stop behind in DR. My images say it all! 2. The portability. Well, I can easily fit it in my winter coat pocket. It’s a point n shoot after all. Don’t feel like mirrorless or DSLR in my hand except for its image quality and functionality. 3. Sony has implanted a computer in this little thing and all the settings, once you mastered them, come so handy for you to deal with various shooting needs. I strongly recommend buying an independent shooters guide by Alexander S White. which provides more insights in bringing out the full potential of the camera. 4. 35mm is the sweet spot for portrait, street photography and landscape. Techically, this lens is slightly wider than a traditional 35mm, at about 33mm by some tech reviews. But checkout the gas town image I shot from the middle of the road. If you like the wide angle view, chances are you will be happy with this 35mm lens, needless to say it’s advantages over the 28mm when cropping is used in post processing. All in all, this camera can be a great supplement to your Phone camera or your existing mirrorless or DSLR system. It’s portability makes it the ultimate travel companion. It’s definitely a Leica Q killer, unless you have to use zone focusing or your are obsessed with the red dot. I’d highly recommend it to any intermedium photographer who seeks the ultimate combination of image quality and portability.

Absolutely Stunning Image Quality

I bought this camera for my trip to Japan. I was amazed on the crispness and quality. It has a very small footprint which makes it easy for traveling with a shoulder strap. Controls are easy to make quick adjustments.

Great Features Small Package

Got Tired Of Luging Around a full size DSLR on my vacations. This camera is great, fits in a shoulder bag with plenty of room for guide book, sunscreen, and snacks. takes great pictures and can download them to my smartphone so I can send them to family and friends. Really happy with this camera. Only drawbacks are 1: its a bit of a power hog so a spare battery is a must. 2: have found the 35mm only lens a bit frustrating at times. (I've learned to do more editing as a result, but being able to zoom from 24mm- 80mm would just make this camera perfect)

An amazing camera

Truely a wonderful camera. It is great as a travel camera, has the play memories application software, can really be the only camera you need. The 35F2 lens is spectacular.
