Familiar but better....

My original model RX100 recently gave up the ghost after many years great service. The Mark V is very familiar in operation but with some great enhancements eg viewfinder and movable screen. I am very happy.

Capable Performer

I wanted a small compact camera for carrying with me at all times plus whilst on my bicycle. The small size if the RX100 plus the 1" sensor steered me twoards it. So far I am most pleased with it. The still images, both JPEG and RAW are better than I expected. The 4K video is outstanding and the 1080P is even better in my view. I wear glasses and the viewfinder works fine with them. If you need a small camera that is easily carried everyday then the RX100 may be what you need.

The best compact ever

"It's simply a camera that does everything you would want a camera to do: excellent image quality, a sufficiently large sensor, outstanding aperture up to f/1.8, 4k 30fps video capability, supports raw photos and s-log videos, integrated ND filter, hundreds of customizable features, convenient controls with the ring on the lens, built-in flash, integrated OLED viewfinder... all in a pocket-sized product, smaller than a smartphone... exceptional! The only drawback, if I have to be nitpicky, is the limited 70mm focal length (it's 200mm in newer versions, but they losed the ND filter, which I consider indispensable). If they combined the 200mm with the ND filter, it would undoubtedly be the ultimate camera."

Powerful Pocket Rocket!

Purchased for a high quality pocket camera with a fast lens when I dont want to carry my full frame gear! Better image quality than any latest mobile phone with the larger 1.0" sensor and sophisticated AF. Made of quality metal and tiny enough to fit into any pocket.

Just what I needed

I bought this as a replacement for my DSC-H55 which is showing its age, to use when I don’t want to carry my full DSLR kit.

So far so good

I bought this a few weeks ago and it was a conscious choice between the 5a and the 7 as I prefer the better speed of the lens. I was looking for a pocketable camera that could still produce a good picture and almost went mad looking at the pluses and minuses of what was on the market but opted for the RX100. My only reservation was the lens speed at the longest length but then I discovered the 5a. Ok only up to 70mm but everything else is brilliant about this perfect travel camera and, other than touch screen, the software matches the 7. I've still to take it on my travels but so far I've been impressed. The only change is like to see it's to up the 70 to 100mm or 80mm which shouldn't influence the aperture too much. Highly recommend.

Good package (for me, better than later models)

Bought this to replace a RX100 Mark 1 which finally gave up after about 9 years of moderate use -- so not too bad. The RX100 V(A) is a notable upgrade in usage, with the built in viewfinder and tilt-able screen, and much enhanced focus system including face / eye recognition in partficular. Very promising reviews and marks for the sensor performance too - though I haven't yet done much post processing. Generally a very good feature balance against the competition (I heavily prioritise quality and therefore sensor size personally, as the user of a semi-pro mirrorless "SLR" for when i'm in even more enthusiast mode - which makes normal compacts with smaller sensors look really poor. I like the balance of features here compared to later models too - as I said I value quality, so a 1.8 max aperture and good lens are definitely better than a superzoom you see on the M6 and 7 for my purposes (I won't be upgrading to those ever -- not good enough max aperture and probably more compromised lens quality to reach those lengths). The negatives -- battery life not great (but spares are reasonably cheap) - and it REALLY should come stock with the GR2 grip.... the design without it is FAR too slippery in the hand.

Flash unit died in two cameras

I've had two of these cameras and both flash units died after just over a year's worth of use. Really poor considering the high price tag.

Great in theory but faulty in practice

I had this for less than a week and when it did work it took wonderful pictures and the speed and feature set was amazing. Unfortunately the front control ring leaked its lube oil on first use and became sticky not smooth, and then the viewfinder mechanism failed, and finally the card slot stopped accepting sd cards, so i returned the camera for a refund.

Rx100 va

Having to drop from a DSLR due to Ill health LCE Derby recommended this camera, I was unsure if the sensor being a one inch format ( not a physical one inch size) would give me the results but as a long term customer I was happy to give it a go; here’s what I found:- The electronic viewfinder is top notch clear and dare I say better for information on screen than my previous DSLR. Very compact with the fast 24-70 lens. You do have to be careful with menu and tiny buttons. Focus is great and the fitted case is worth getting to complement it. It came with an out of date software that windows 11 wouldn’t download but a bit of digging found that it was updated and renamed, Having used it for a couple of months great interior and portrait shots but I can’t help thinking I should have had the longer zoom version. The grey skies on landscape images however does tend even on raw not to hold much detail. It could be me though. Can’t review sound or video as I don’t shoot it.

So much in such a small package

I bought this three weeks aog to replace my trusty RX100iii that sadly expired after 6 years of regular use. I wanted the large aperture of the iii so went for the VA rather then the VI and it doesn't disappoint but with the added feature of much quicker focus. It is fiddly to use if your not used to it, but not a problem after a while. Still a load of addional features to be explored, but as with the iii when I bought it, an awsome piece of technology. to complement my A7iii.

A Great Little Camera

I already have the Sony A6000, and a Sony A7iii………but in certain situations I wanted to travel light. I already had a little compact from another manufacturer, it was getting a little old and dare I say ‘well used’ and so I decided on the RX1005A. I have to be careful on what I buy due to only having one arm, but this little Sony is great. After using my 2 other Cameras, I had no issues with its menu system. It’s great just to put in your pocket and go. It has some great features, but more than that……..the final photos are fantastic.

Brand new camera is not working.

The recently bought camera is not working - it shows black screen with "turn power off then on". Many people had the same problem but it's still not solved by SONY BEFORE selling it. Shame on You!

Sony RX100va

2 years ago I bought a Panasonic compact camera with a view for using it for street photography and spontaneous photos. The camera gave very poor-quality photos. I have a friend who has a Sony RX100 (first version) and he highly recommended it. I decided to go with his recommendation and I bought the RX100va because it was at the top end of my price range. After 3 weeks of use I have found it very easy to set up and gave me a lot of flexibilty in how I use it. Its small and compact and I find the solid build quality gives sufficient weight to handle the camera correctly. I photograph in RAW and the quality ogf the photos is very good. They are easy to manipulate on my photo editor. I definitely recommend the Sony RX100 range of cameras.

Good quality ultra compact portrait/travel camera

Hunted around for a more pocketable companion to my Micro 4/3 Olympus interchangeable camera. The RX100 fitted the bill and the reviews (mostly from 2018 when it came out) supported the high quality well focussed pictures I'm getting. I could not justify/afford the Mk VI or VII, and didn't need the longer zoom. I wanted the brighter aperture that the Mk VA provides. I like the size, bright rear screen, very fast focus and burst shot speeds, and the wifi transfer to my home pc. The only thing I miss from my Olympus and my wifes Panasonic compact zoom is a touch screen as it makes it so much easier to select focus points. However the RX100 focusses so quickly and 'accurately' I rarely find the need to change focus point.

Amazing

Very happy with the camera. I was worried that the Artificial Intelligence used by the Auto modes would make a lot of bad decisions and drive me crazy. But amazed how sensible all the decisions it makes are. Controls and menu options also seem to be very well layed out and intuitive. So I do not have to waste much time digging through the manuals to find where settings are hidden. Remote control using smartphone app very useful for taking selfies when you need to place camera further than arms length away to fit everything in, for example of large groups or to include background . Extremely solid build quality. Image quality seems to be very good, probably much better than an average user would ever be able to see or use since the image quality of modern high end cameras like this only really shows up when you print photos in very large sizes - which most people don't do unless serious amatuers or pro photographers. Bit confusing that there are so many different models in the RX100 V range, I chose the 5A.
