Swanson Niacin, Supports Carbohydrate & Energy Metabolism & Promotes Cardiovascular Health (250 Capsules)

Had been taking niacin for years and didn’t read the reviews when I bought this. Within a few weeks of taking I would break out into horrible hives if I didn’t also take a Benadryl at the same time. One day I went into anaphylactic shock after taking niacin and then going out into the sun, which required an emergency room visit. The hives and burning were almost unbearable and I am grateful to have realized that it was being caused by niacin. There has been a recent medical journal article published this year (2024) discussing the potential risks outweighing the benefits of using niacin for heart health, and is an important read. The FDA should be reevaluating this product to determine if it should stay on the shelves with so many having adverse side effects.

Extensive hives !! Some Flushing could be tolerable but tongue swelling?

It performed just as I expected to. I'll buy some more soon!

Product is as described. 100 mg seems to be enough for me to get a mild flush.

Good price for good niacin. I like the flush. I've been taking niacin for about 50 years, and I think it is good for your health.

Great Stuff. Avoid the discomforting "Flush" and take in the middle of eating.

Priced right. Hard to find this quality OTC. I have taken it for years. The flush tells me it’s working and I don’t object. Swanson provides many choices in strength and form so you can adapt to your own needs.

Great price - 250 caps for about the price charged for 100 caps at most other sources. I got no flush whatsoever with 3 caps, so I question the potency of it. I requested a refund.

This is an excellent size tablet that minimizes the flushing effect, but still improves the circulation.

No flush. There is ALOT of extra junk in these...same as the Swanson chlorella...I don't need calcium carbonate in my chlorella. But I digress. Usually love everything Swanson...:(

some don' like the flush associated with niacin, but i do. i can tell right away that something is happening. most supplements that you take you wonder if it's doing anything. not so with niacin that isn't modified to be time release and anti flush.

Personally, I take the Big Boy Niacin - - - the 500 mg. capsule I buy from Swanson Health Products. I'm sure you all know about the 'Niacin Flush' one gets after taking a sufficient dose of Niacin. I like the flush. I'm used to it. Heck, I've been taking Niacin in 500 mg. capsules for several decades. I value my 'Niacin Flush.' One of my daughters was asking me about the value of my 'Niacin Flush' when she observed my 'just-got-back-from-a-sunny-day-at-the-beach-look.' When I told her about its overall values, from circulation to skin and everything else, she said she wanted to give it a try, but with one caveat. She didn't want the full blast, red-and-tingly-all-over, major league Niacin Flush. . . . At least not to start with. Kinda like gingerly sticking your foot into the surf before wading in when the water is cold at the beach. I told her about this 100 mg. Niacin tablet. I told her how one tablet may or may not give her a bit of a flush, depending on what she had recently eaten. This way, she could get used to a wee bit of a flush at first, then increase her dosage to 2 tablets to see what a little bigger flush was like, and then go on up to 3 tablets, or more. There is no telling how many milligrams will give an individual a flush of any size --- small, medium, or all-over-large; however, it has been my own personal experience that about 3 tablets (= 300 mg.) starts to get the job done. I like to take 500 mg. of Niacin with my main batch of nutritional supplements daily. Let's me know I'm alive, so to speak. Hey, works for me.

I have tried other forms of B-3 and find this to be a good all around. On days I feel that I need the energy boost and the added circulation I can increase the dose and because there is no flushing and tingly irritation at this dosage and formulation I can take them as needed without any discomfort and can split a 500-1000 mg dosage throughout the day as opposed to all at once.

My doctor recommended basic niacin to support a healthy lipid panel, not flush-free or sustained release. I tried this one, starting with one tablet and quickly building up to 5 per day, but the reaction was very unpleasant, so I had to go back to one. My doctor said I rushed it and must build up slowly. So, over the past 6 months, I've built up to 3 per day, two with breakfast and one with dinner. I get very little flushing with a meal. I hope within a year to increase to 5 per day, but already I'm getting good results. To support heart health I also take Norwegian Cod Liver Oil Lemon Lime, which is very good tasting and sold here as item NAT065. Plus, 3 daily of Buffered C with Bioflavonoids, item SW944. And on my doctor's recommendation to support healthy arteries and lipids, I also take 2x L-Lysine SWU452, 2x L-Proline SWU450, 2x L-Arginine SWU457, 2x TMG SWU466, and 2x Plant Sterols SWU503. I'm happy Swanson's carries all of these at good prices, and my latest test results are excellent. I'm trying to do everything right, but no question a big part of my improvement came from cutting sugars and carbs in my diet by about 85%. Basically, I eliminated them, except for a small amount of cheating. Kal Pure Stevia Extract Powder had been a big help KL504.

Even though Niacin gives me a tingling sensation I know that is is helping me with circulation. The benefits outweigh the quickly gone tingling.
