Q: How deep is the countertop when the leaf is extended up and how deep is the countertop when it is folded down ?

A: The leaf cannot be extended up. When the leaf folded down, the deep of countertop is 17".

The island surface is a nice wood. I know it will stand up to reasonable use and cleaning. The item went together well, all the holes lined up, but aside from the surface, many of the other materials felt somewhat flimsy. I'm not entirely confident that the unit will stay in good shape, which is a shame. It's not bad at a reduced price, but certainly not worth what they say full price is.

Every single hole lined up, which was amazing. A little time consuming, but instructions are very clear and percise with zoomed in photos of what you need to do next. It’s nice and good size for the price. I like it a lot and the extra storage space is nice!
