Targus 17" Chill Mat™+ with 4-port Hub

I've had this thing for a few years now and it's absolutely terrible. Tapping the left fan to fix it doesn't work. There's no way to open it to check if something is stuck in the fan. It's been like this since a few months after I bought it. I've literally had to use my fist to get it to stop rattling. There's no way to disassemble it enough to get to the fans and see if they just need cleaning or if something is loose.

From April 28th 2024 until about a week ago (September 17th 2024), my chill mat+ was running just fine. I had gotten used to the hum of the fans, but one day...that hum became a grating noise of what sounded like the fan grinding against the plastic case. I tried to bump it a couple of times, but that only made it worse. I tried to see if I could get into it, but even if I knew the first thing to do to fix it...I would have great difficulty doing so. I would like to get another one because of the convenience of the USB hub and the cooling fans actually helping my PC while playing a game like Baldur's Gate 3 (which I play often for hours at a time, so it's been really handy). So until I'm able to get another one or find out about more info about the 1 year warranty, it's just a laptop stand at the moment!

I bought 8 months ago and the fans are clogged. I have no way to clean them.

I love this thing, it gets the job done. Sleek enough to fit in my backpack or messenger bag. Even if you dont us the fans it is good to have so the heat from your computer is not trapped.

Older laptop overheating. Purchased this and the problem is resolved 100%. Duel fans are quiet. Also tilts the unit to a nice degree, so is better ergonomically.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Chill Mat+ is really nice! My 14 year old son takes his laptop with him everywhere. The lap board he was using before wasn't very stable and the laptop would slide off and break. Plus it wasn't the greatest for keeping the laptop cool. This Chill Mat is a great size to hold the laptop in place and you can adjust the height if you have it sitting on your lap or if you are laying down looking at it so you don't get a kink in your neck. It's nice that it has the extra 4-Port hub of USBs in the back as it requires a USB plug to run the fan to cool the lapotp, and my son's laptop only has 2 USB ports. That being said, not everything works in those back USB ports. Maybe they only work with USB 2.0 or 3.0 specific devices? Anyway, the fan works well, but it is a little bit loud and takes time to get used to. You can unplug the fan and the elevation of the laptop still helps it to stay cool, but the fan helps more. Overall, my son has enjoyed using this Chill Mat and carries it around the house. It's much more stable and secure and it's nice that it can be adjusted for the position he is using it at.

This is a real solution that also doubles as a dock. It works on multiple sizes of laptops and I've used it for both my work and personal laptops.

I love that you can sit it on your lap or table and can be adjusted to multiple viewing angles. I also love that it has 4 ports to hook up my mouse, printer along with other items, if I need. I would definitely purchase again.

She sits on the couch and it’s on a flat surface, on an angle and elevated. If her laptop gets hot we will plug the fan in with the usb to use it but it hasn’t been needed yet since she doesn’t use her laptop for long.

The amount of ports make the ease, and everything else, so simple. It effectively cools my laptop while gaming and I don't have to sit in front of a desktop at a chair anymore.

This works great to keep it elevated and cooled. It also has the great feature of having 4 ports to plug stuff into as well and is very convenient and easy to bring with you wherever you go!

I use my laptop at a desk a lot of the time, with external mouse and keyboard, plus an external hard drive, and an external microphone. So of course I need a laptop stand because otherwise the viewing angle isn’t very ergonomic at my desk, but I also need a USB hub for all those peripherals, and it all makes for quite the chaotic setup. But now, everything is handled by this Chill Mat. It fits my larger laptop perfectly and securely, and the fans definitely help keep things cool (I live in Florida so my poor laptop has its work cut out for it on its own). The adjustable height lets me get the perfect viewing angle, and maybe the best part is that I can toss my USB hub doohickey that used to have to hang off my laptop all the time, because the 4 built-in USB ports work great. Basically, this gadget does it all, so now my WFH life (and PC gaming life, shh) has been made a little less painless.

Being able to put the mat into different positions also helps with the ergonomics of using my laptop.

HAVE AN OLD 17INCH Z-BOOK, THE FRONT EDGE OF THE CHILL PAD NEEDS TYO BE HIGHER TO ASSURE THAT THE COMPUTER WILL NOT SLIDE OFF
