Having read Dr. Larimore's Bryson City series about 4 years ago, I could hardly wait till his Kissimmee book, The Best Medicine, was published. But life intervened and I didn't get this book until July 2022. I was not disappointed. I laughed and I cried, and it brought back poignant memories of my own medical career many years ago. Not just the gripping medical stories (those are great), but the sweet insights he shared from his mentor, his precious little daughter Kate, and his beloved wife Barb were all priceless. He writes with such humility and transparency of his own shortcomings, and that is rare in a doctor! The hair-raising antics of his young son Scott were funny and scary at the same time. And amazingly he drove his father's old truck to work every day for 15 years despite the jibes (and offers) from the doctors around him in their expensive cars. He was content to just be himself and didn't cave in to pressure from his peers. He was an excellent family physician, but also an awesome family man and a great writer. I could hardly wait to read the next book in the series.
