About the Book

"Many smart, accomplished people don't know how to cook--and they feel embarrassed and anxious about not being successful in this area of their lives ... But cooking doesn't have to scary or stressful, even if you've never read a recipe or used your oven. Jessica will show you how to prepare the deliciously simple food you love to order in restaurants: from caesar salad, butternut squash soup, and roasted asparagus to lemon salmon, roast chicken, and pasta with clams. Each recipe is written in Jessica's calming, confidence-building voice, which tells you up-front what the challenge will be and then shows you exactly how you overcome it in easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions"--

Book Synopsis

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Deceptively Delicious, an essential collection of more than 100 simple recipes that will transform even the most kitchen-phobic "Can't Cooks" into "Can Cooks."

Are you smart enough to dodge a telemarketer yet clueless as to how to chop a clove of garlic? Are you clever enough to forward an e-mail but don't know the difference between broiling and baking? Ingenious enough to operate a blow-dryer but not sure how to use your blender? If you are basically competent, then Jessica Seinfeld's The Can't Cook Book is for you.

If you find cooking scary or stressful or just boring, Jessica has a calm, confidencebuilding approach to cooking, even for those who've never followed a recipe or used an oven. Jessica shows you how to prepare deliciously simple food--from Caesar salad, rice pilaf, and roasted asparagus to lemon salmon, roast chicken, and flourless fudge cake. At the beginning of each dish, she explains up front what the challenge will be, and then shows you exactly how to overcome any hurdles in easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions.

Designed to put the nervous cook at ease, The Can't Cook Book is perfect for anyone who wants to gain confidence in the kitchen--and, who knows, maybe even master a meal or two.

Great Starter Cookbook

5 out of 5 stars
Thumbs up graphic, would recommend
Allison - 9 years ago
My MIL gave me this book after we had been married 6 months and were still living on poorly broiled salmon, pasta with jarred sauce and ground beef, frozen pizza, and frozen Bertolli's meals. This book goes over excellent easy recipes for pancakes, tacos, chicken legs, rice pilaf, sauteed spinach, etc. This book was an excellent introduction to cooking, including how to chop vegetables, prep meat, etc. It's not overwhelming and the ingredients are simple, nutritious, and affordable. The other reviewer mentioned that her recipe for lasagna was better- if you already have a recipe for lasagna, this book is not for you. This book is for young adults, newly living away from their parents and out of the dorm, who need help learning how to cook basic food. I also recommend America's Test Kitchen "The Complete Cooking for Two Cookbook."

Only made Lasagna, was terrible, added sausage but sauce was terrible. My own receipt is so much better. Easy recipes to follow but come on, not very exciting.
