Description
Book Synopsis
A collection of Edgar Allan Poe's writings, including The Fall of the House of Usher--the inspiration for the Netflix series from Mike Flanagan, the director of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass! This selection of critical writings, short fiction and poetry demonstrates Poe's intense interest in aesthetic issues and the astonishing power and imagination with which he probed the darkest corners of the human mind. "The Fall of the House of Usher" describes the final hours of a family tormented by tragedy and the legacy of the past. In "The Tell Tale Heart", a murderer's insane delusions threaten to betray him, while stories such as "The Pit and the Pendulum" and "The Cask of Amontillado" explore extreme states of decadence, fear and hate. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. Rating based on Target shipping / quality control
The actual print quality of the book is decent but Target sent me a battered and seemingly old copy- the printing on the cover was peeling away and the edges were crumpled. I understand the edges may have been damaged during shipping since the box they used allowed it to kick around inside, but the fact that the print on both front and back cover were peeling away and they still sent it is frustrating. Target really needs better quality control for books and music, especially since most of the offerings are only available online.
