Not my cup of tea!
The Infamous Gilberts by Angela Tomaski sounded intriguing, but the writing style and point of view were its downfall. Max, a neighbor, guides readers through Thornwalk House, describing each room and its contents before sharing a story about a family member in relation to that room. The Gilbert family is comprised of unlikeable people. There is no flow between the chapters. Each chapter reads like a brief story or personal reflection. For the most part, The Infamous Gilberts is a sad and dark book. There are some amusing moments (few and far between). Although The Infamous Gilberts is only 288 pages long, the narrative dragged on and the conclusion was unsurprising and unsatisfying. I frequently set the book aside and only picked it back up with reluctance. Reaching the final page came as a relief.
