Book Synopsis

A gripping, twisty thriller from Freida McFadden, the New York Times author of The Housemaid and The Coworker!

The guiltiest people aren't always the ones behind bars...

As a new nurse practitioner at a maximum-security prison, Brooke Sullivan is taught three crucial rules:

  1. Treat all prisoners with respect.
  2. Never reveal any personal information.
  3. Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.

But nobody knows that Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary's most notorious and dangerous inmates.

They certainly don't know that Shane was Brooke's high school sweetheart--the star quarterback, the golden boy who's serving a life sentence for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke's testimony was what put him there.

But Shane knows. He knows more than anyone. And he will never forget.

The Inmate is a propulsive, mind-bending thriller about how we define guilt--and who has to pay for it, from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden.

I was honestly so disappointed with how it lined up with Tim and Shane, I wanted the high school sweetheart story to work out so I was sad at the end when it didn’t go the way I wanted!! BUT it was a very good read, kept me on the edge of my seat and I was thrown for a loop at the end because I already had a couple theories on who the guilty person was, and what actually happened, etc. However, I did have some questions I felt weren’t explained with Mrs Nelson. I still would recommend and I throughly enjoyed it!

I loved this book! Lots of cliff hangers and twists and turns. Just when you think you’ve solved it, you’re dead wrong. Only thing is some of Brooke’s (main character’s) thinking is repetitive. But I’d still put this within the same range as Verity by Colleen Hoover.

Main character makes so many poor, foolish decisions, it’s no surprise how she ends up in the situations she does. I felt extremely frustrated throughout reading the book because of that. Like where was the common sense?? Storyline was predictable and overall it was entertaining but nothing special and I wouldn’t recommend it.
