Cinematic Nirvana!
This 4K BluRay Lord of the Rings trilogy release with both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film is about as high-quality a cinema experience as you could have. Watched on my dedicated theater's 120" Screen Innovations Pure Gray acoustically transparent screen paired with Sony's true 4K 6000 series projector, accompanied by a full on Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 system, and was addicted from the first frame to the very end. Super impactful cinematic experience. As others have noted the box the discs come in is horrible. But I wasn't buying it for the box. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up… And make sure to watch the extended versions!

Packaging is awful, also does not include digital download
Packaging is terrible as mentioned by other reviewers. The disks do not stay secure in the case. Also, the photo in the description advertises a digital download included. This is not actually included in the product.

Movies incredible, package terrible
This review is for the packaging, as many other reviews have noted. The movies themselves are five stars, the greatest fantasy trilogy ever put to film. It’s a darn shame that with each re-release the studio sees fit to reduce the quality of the cases. At this point I have purchased these movies four times over since their release, from the original DVD to the extended editions, blu-ray and now 4K. With the original blu-ray release being poorly mastered I felt it necessary to get these versions… but the case they come in is absolutely atrocious. Half the discs were fallen from their mount, opening the box with as much care as possible dislodges one or two with every movement. Fortunately, I still have the heirloom quality DVD special edition packages so I will store these 4k versions therein… not to mention there are no separate discs with all the extras, at least the blu-ray versions still kept the dvd extras in the package. I guess the studio knows that we hardcore fans will still purchase even with the terrible packaging but I genuinely wish that weren’t the norm.

Terrible box set, fantastic trilogy
Pretty much the same complaint as everyone else - the actual box set is awful. The discs do not stay in place and fall out easily, rattle around, etc. Half the discs were loose when I opened the case for the first time. Pretty much guaranteed to damage the discs unless you buy something else to hold them in. The actual movies themselves are incredible and no issues with playing them unless they got damaged by the poor packaging. Warning: each extended edition film is split across two disks so six discs total to watch the extended trilogy in 4K. Theatrical trilogy is just the standard three discs. (9 discs total in the set) There's a reason they're a classic and why people are buying it in 4K UHD. Absolutely a must have for anyone who loves LOTR, but buy separate cases at the same time. Digital downloads were super easy to redeem.

Yay for extended edition!
I mean, it’s Lord of the Rings so what bad things could I possibly say? We actually already own the movies, but wanted the extended editions. I took of a star though because when it arrived two of the discs were loose and just banging around in the case.

Firmware not up to date - paper weight
Bought two returned one. Neither set works in a Xbox series X or PS5 due to firmware/DRM issues. Beware, with the streaming, the disc market has been neglected and security features have been left stale without attention rending discs useless. This box set is a paperweight.

Buy a secondary case.
These movies are great. The 4K is a definite upgrade. But the box are terrible. For a 100 dollar 4K extended and theatrical box set. Half the discs fall out depending on what side of the case they are on. And that is not good for longevity. Literally the box in box set is the worst part of this set.

You'll throw away the case
The movies are good but the packaging is a joke. The case doesn’t lock or stay closed, and the DVDs don’t stay attached to the holder - so they’re just loose in the clamshell and I can’t get them to snap on. Also, there’s broken bits of plastic just floating around inside. Now I have to buy a DVD holder to even keep these guys safe or to take them anywhere. The packaging is an obvious attempt to cut corners and save money on something they know people will buy anyways, and that’s annoying.

Worth every penny
I didn’t have scratched discs like some reviewers, but did have to clean the Two Towers discs with a microfiber cloth. The movies look phenomenal. I have a 4K OLED and the effects are outstanding.

Discs keep arriving scratched, low quality case and discs!
This box set is manufactured with the lowest possible quality! Even when buying it in the store, several discs will come scratched or damaged in some way. I tried exchanging this and the same thing happened again! Many people are having this problem, especially with the extended edition discs. They need to drastically increase the quality of both the case that holds the discs plus the discs themselves, this is unacceptable garbage!

One Trilogy To Rule Them All
The greatest trilogy ever made. It looks incredible on my plasma TV. Even though I watched it at 1080p, the difference in visual quality was still epic, and given LOTR has plenty of dark and dimly-lit scenes, I'm glad I still have a plasma to watch it on. It would've been nice if it included some extras, but I'm still happy with the theatrical and extended editions.

The Lord of the Rings in 4k
This 4k rendering of the movie looks amazing in all 3 films. Noticeable difference in detail over the standard blu-ray, and the Dolby Atmos is the icing on the cake! An absolute must have if you're a fan.
