This book by Joshua Becker is fascinating. He very easily shows us how to declutter our homes, so that the clutter in our minds and souls get uncluttered, and we learn more about ourselves. I have been decluttering, and it is a wonderful experience. Especially by my donating so many items to others who have need.

In The Minimalist Home, Josh Becker takes you through each room of your house, and provides suggestions on how to minimize your belongings. The purpose is not simply to decrease physical clutter, but also to free up emotional space and allow readers to live their best lives. Each chapter is geared toward a difference space within the home, and includes a step-by-step for successfully minimizing the space. He also includes a checklist to help identify when you have completed that space. Each chapter also features testimonials from people who have used Becker's method, which I found to be very helpful in applying the ideas. If I'm being honest, I started this book expecting to gain very little. While I don't live a true minimalist lifestyle, I frequently go through our belongings and purge any unnecessary items. I am happy to report that I found his suggestions very helpful and I cleared four garbage bags worth of items out of my house by the time I finished the book. I would recommend The Minimalist Home more for people who have not had any experience with minimalism, but anyone will take away helpful information. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher.

My husband and I have been thinking about cutting down the clutter for a while, but it’s so overwhelming when you think of everything that needs done. This book helped us tremendously in cutting into steps and making it more manageable. Lots of great tips/advice/stories along the way! I really enjoyed this book. It would definitely be helpful to you if you're in a similar position. Wanting to start but not sure where. Worth the purchase!

The Minimalist Home by Joshua Becker addresses an issue that so many of us face in today's society: too much clutter. Our homes are overflowing, our cupboards are full, and we are renting storage space just to contain it all. And yet many of us feel at a lose of how to end the madness. The Minimalist Home takes a systematic, step by step approach to decluttering with purpose. He attempts to take an overwhelming issue and focus on logical steps, all while keeping our sanity intact. But more importantly the author quickly zeroes in on our "why" for decluttering, and the main idea is "who is owning who." Do we own our possessions or do they own us? This thought became increasingly clear when I set out to put this concept into action. Taking Becker's advice, and being armed with this book and a good dose of courage, I attempted to follow through with my own little decluttering experiment. First, I worked in my bedroom, tossing out clothes that have long since seen better days or seemed to have shrunk a few sizes while resting in my dresser. It felt good. But then came the hard stuff: old journals filled with poetry and stories, cards from my Grandmother, momentos from oversea travel. So I jumped to the kitchen, purging and sorting, and cleaning as I went. Until it too became more difficult:gadgets, cakes pans, and vintage pieces. I found that no matter what room I was in, I had to keep coming back to Becker's central question: Who is owning who? That's what sets this book apart. And ultimately it's what will dictate whether I'm successful or not. Will I own my possessions or will I allow them to own me? Truthfully the answer to this one may change from time to time, season to season. However, I think this is a battle well worth fighting and I do believe that Becker's book is an excellent tool to use. Logical, sincere, and insightful, Joshua Becker has laid out a thorough plan of attack. And while I don't see myself minimizing as much as he has, his suggestions and checklists make this an easy to follow process. In the weeks that I've owned this book, I've found myself decluttering in starts and stops as the inspiration hits. My journey is one of ups and downs, and certainly some detours. However, The Minimalist Home keeps calling me back, and I know in time, I will find myself in a more peaceful, organized home thanks to this book. *Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. I must admit that decluttering isn't new to me. Over the years I have actually purged some of my belongings and then, as with the case of many addictions, I slipped back into my old habits and replaced them with other items. Being on the launch team of The Minimalist Home has once again given me incentive to declutter and refocus my life. Metablogger and international speaker Joshua Becker offers tips to help us make the most of our living space and he even suggests that a minimized home is a better place to come home to and it is also a better place to go out from. Becker explains 'The Becker Method', shares tips for decluttering each room of our house and then he gives us a Minimalism Maintenance Guide to help us maintain this new lifestyle! Sprinkled throughout the book are key concepts and three of them especially resonated with me. **Never organize what you can discard.#minimalisthome **Not every possession is a belonging.#minimalisthome **Be remembered for the life you lived--not the things you bought.#minimalisthome The concept of minimalist living certainly isn't new but this book stresses the benefits of a decluttered, refocused life and all of the information is handily contained in one book! I recommend The Minimalist Home as an excellent resource for anyone who desires a simpler life. I received an advanced copy of this book for review from Waterbrook Multnomah as part of the book’s launch team partnership. These are my honest opinions. ** Quotes are taken from an uncorrected proof. Content shown may or may not appear in the final text.
