Book Synopsis
Take your night and low-light photography to the next level!
In The Night Photography Book, Erik Kuna, award-winning photographer and host of the influential podcast The Grid, uncovers today's latest techniques for capturing amazing images of the Milky Way, the stars, the night sky, and so much more, and he does it in such an easy and approachable way that it makes creating these "out of this world" images accessible to everyone.
Erik shares his own recipes for creating stellar images without having an advanced science degree. While this style of photography is part art, part science, and part technology, Erik takes away all the mystery and complexity and shows you exactly which gear you need, which settings to use, and which accessories work best (and which ones to avoid). He does it all in a fun, casual style that will have you creating incredible images without breaking a sweat. That's what makes this book, and these techniques, so unique (and so invaluable).
You'll learn Erik's step-by-step techniques for mastering nighttime and low-light photography, from Milky Way landscapes to long-exposure star trails, to light painting techniques, and even the all-important post-processing techniques that make your images really come to life. You'll learn:
- - How to plan a successful night shoot (it's more important than you'd think).
- - The best camera settings (including how to avoid turning the stars into streaky smudges).
- - Tricks for getting tack-sharp focus in total darkness.
- - Which phone apps can help make the whole process easier (and more fun).
- - How the pros are doing light painting today (it's easier than ever using his techniques).
- - Which gear matters, which gear doesn't, and why your tripod is a night photographer's best friend.
- - Plus, you'll learn Erik's own post-processing techniques that make a world of difference--it's all here, step by step. These techniques alone will take your work to the next level!
With a great mix of pro tips, real-world examples, and Erik's straight-to-the-point, casual teaching style, this book makes night photography fun, approachable, and most importantly, achievable for everyone. So, if you're ready to trade in those noisy, underwhelming night shots for some truly jaw-dropping images that make people say, "Wait, you took that?!" then crack open this book and dive right into Chapter 1.
