Book Synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Amy Harmon comes a sweepingly romantic tale of risk, redemption, and what happens when America's most famous outlaw falls in love.

When infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy decides to go straight, he discovers that too many of the powerful men he crossed won't let bygones be bygones. To have a chance at a new life, he'll have to become someone else entirely.

A brief, fateful encounter with the celebrated singer Jane Touissant on the eve of his escape offers a glimpse of what might have been, but Butch disappears, leaving her behind, until their paths unexpectedly converge again in Paris.

Despite having discovered his true identity, Jane trusts the outlaw and enlists his protection on her upcoming American tour. Although Butch is reluctant to agree, fearing his sordid past may put the woman and her young son in danger, the salvation she offers is too hard to resist.

As they set forth on their journey, Butch's past and Jane's secrets put them at risk from threats far greater than the law, and this legend of the American West will have to decide what matters most--his life, his legacy, or the woman he loves.

Review Quotes

"The decision to imbue the Butch Cassidy myth with even more passion and intrigue certainly would have fallen flat if not handled with care. Lucky for readers that Harmon is up to the task." --Booklist (starred review)

"The period-piece aspects of the story are well-researched and convincing. This highly entertaining novel is a treat for lovers of the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: you can almost see Paul Newman's charming smile as Noble Salt soothes Jane's anxieties! Another fine read from Amy Harmon..."--Historical Novel Society

"This book, once again, confirms that Amy Harmon is a master storyteller. I tried so hard to savor it, but there came a point where I could only devour it." --Cindy Steel, bestselling author of The One With the Kiss Cam

"Amy Harmon delivers an addictive tale rich in history and brimming with adventure and romance. Masterfully written and unputdownable." --Jewel E. Ann, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author

"I still have tears in my eyes. This is an exquisite story." --Nicole Deese, Christy Award-winning author of The Words We Lost

"Every character in this story became beloved. Harmon has an incredible talent for finding depth in the every day." --Evie Montgomerie, author of True Love Gave to Me

The Outlaw Noble Salt is a historical romance masterpiece. The pages are full of adventure, excitement, and tumultuous emotion. Amy Harmon captures the essence of the real life characters and brings to life their longing for purpose and belonging, their joys and heartbreak, their regret and victories. Harmon’s flawless writing once again paints a world that will suck you in head first and will not let you go. She perfectly articulates the setting, missing nothing in her regaling of this 1900’s time. The story of Butch Cassidy is one that will move you to tears and captivate your mind for long after putting down the pages. I also must recommend the audiobook. I typically favor reading novels because I like the feel of pages in my hand. However, for some reason I tried the audio for this one and I am so glad I did. Rob Shapiro perfectly voices these characters, giving life to every word on every page. His voice is soothing and pleasant yet there were many times I could practically feel the emotion dripping from his words. His narration only adds to the beauty within these pages.

Shatter my heart and put it back together again. Famous outlaw, Butch Cassidy will never be the same. Author, Amy Harmon has done him a blessing with this alternate ending of redemption and love she has added to his memory. From the little haiku’s tucked within the pages to the example that it’s never too late to make the right choice, Noble Salt will win your heart over again and again. These characters! The ending! The angst! This is a story for the ages, and one I will devour again and again. I love how Noble’s character continues to grow up through the very last page. His arc is incredible. Even the side characters were blessed with lovely character arcs through their last on-page appearances. This story has the historical. It has the romance. It has the desire for redemption, the sacrificing brother, the decisions of right over easy. The author has done it again, and I am putty. These fictional characters will live alongside the real, historical ones in my mind forever and ever. Bravo. Like literary singer, Jane Toussaint, the author deserves a standing ovation.
