Book Synopsis
The election of a new Pope coincides with an international interfaith crisis, with literally apocalyptic ramifications. The coincidence of "signs" - and the secret last letter delivered to the children of Fatima - require the attention of Ruth Waller, an Anglican expert on the end times, and Alessio Brondini, a soldierly priest who serves as the Pope's advisor and bodyguard. They are joined by a full contingent of religious and national leaders, including the Grand Ayatollah, the Greek Patriarch, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi, The Archbishop of Canterbury, and the leaders of Israel, the European Union, Russia, and the United States. What unfolds is a suspenseful, headlong rush toward possible oblivion which threatens the entire world. To top it off, a number of near-miraculous events add to the novel's wonder and suspense.
Review Quotes
"Revelation, history, and geopolitics are woven together in an imaginative tale of intrigue and peril." --- Sam Greengus, Professor Emeritus, Hebrew Union College
"The characters are convincingly real and deftly portrayed, with incredible diversity of the worlds they inhabit. From the first pages, The Seventh Trumpet has a forward propulsion that sweeps the reader into the drama and engages even the most secular to reckon thoughtfully with the great cultural and religious issues at stake." --- S. Frederick Starr, former president of the Aspen Institute and Oberlin College; founding chairman of Central Asia -Caucasus Institute and Silk Road Studies Program, author of The Lost Enlightenment.
"The mystery to end all mysteries: is God about to end the world? Follow the twists and turns in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam as the final days approach." Fred McGavran, author of The Butterfly Collector and Recycled Glass
"The Seventh Trumpet is a world-embracing drama that forecasts a peaceful reconciliation in a New Jerusalem. The episodes of Joseph Dehner's novel are dramatic and gripping, sometimes comic, in their enactment of a future event that begins in Rome and ends in the Holy City. The characters are a United Nations of the future, ultimately harmonious and all-inclusive, comprised of different but equal citizens." -- William Pratt, Professor of English Emeritus, Miami University of Ohio
"The complex plot (and numerous sub-plots) move along smartly between great world cities in a precise time-line that makes it hard to put the book down. The author weaves a fine web of suspense around the mystery of the "miracle" of Fatima and the meaning of ancient numerological codes. The cast of characters includes world religious and political leaders caught up in deadly great power rivalries, as well as assorted sinister cultists. Intrigue abounds, laced with competitive schemes to build a great new edifice on the Temple Mount. This kaleidoscopic novel demands serious reflection. George Bustin, Senior Counsel, Cleary Gottlieb, Brussels and New York
