A Kirkus Reviews Best Picture Book of the Century When a tiny snail meets a humpback whale, the two travel together to far-off lands. It's a dream come true for the snail, who has never left home before. But when the whale swims too close to shore, will the snail be able to save her new friend? From the creators of Room on the Broom and The Gruffalo comes this touching tale of adventure and friendship. With vibrant illustrations and rhymes that are both playful and lyrical, here is a story that shows us that even the smallest creatures can help others in a big way.Review Quotes
"Along with providing a resonant environmental message, the story lightly demonstrates that friendships come in all shapes and sizes."--Publishers Weekly, starred review

One of my very favorite children’s books to read to my kids. We love all of the rhyming, song like stories and beautiful illustrations from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, but this one about the adventures of a tiny snail is just lovely, and always keeps the kids captivated. This purchase was to gift the book to my nephew so he could enjoy it as much as we do.

My 22 month old just loves these books by Julia. Fun, lilting story with just the right amount of words on each page to keep her attention. Not quite as smooth of a read as my favorite of hers "Room on the Broom" but still pretty cute!
