This is the story of Jesus, Palm Sunday and Easter. We learn that Jesus loved all of us very much--both little children and adults alike. He made a big sacrifice for us, gave every one a great gift, and now we can live forever because of Him. Starting with the palms that were laid down for Jesus, to His death, everything is put in terms two-to-five-year-olds are comfortable with, and can understand. Easter is a joyful time! Some of the ways we celebrate today includes going to church, sharing His love, and spending time with each other. This board book contains lots of bright colors and illustrations that make the story come alive, and will capture the attention of small children. The true meaning of Easter is presented in this great five-star book. WorthyKids has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, The Story of Easter, for the purpose of review.

“Now on Easter morning, you’ll know that Jesus loved us so much that … he gave his life for us so that we can live too,” Patricia A. Pingry ends her children’s book, The Story of Easter. ~ What ~ This twenty-page board book with rounded corners targets children ages one to four years old. With no scary scenes but mentioning Jesus dying on the cross, it contains the story of Easter. Colorful, engaging illustrations cover both sides of the pages with an easy-to-read font size. Beginning with the declaration that Spring is coming, this short story reminds us that Jesus loves everyone, was called the Good Shepherd, died on a cross, and rose from the dead on the first Easter. It discusses going to church to sing about our Savior, why there are crosses on church steeples, and why He died for us. ~Why ~ This is a wonderful reminder about the true meaning of Easter. I appreciate it is Biblical instead of secular regarding the holiday and only shows three cross silhouettes so young ones will not get alarmed about Christ’s death. There is enough activity in the pictures to keep a child interested while reading. ~ Why Not ~ Some may not like a book that explains the real meaning of Easter is about Jesus’s resurrection. It does not discuss that our Lord died on the cross for our sins or the eternal plan of salvation, but that may be due to the targeted age group. There are many complicated words that young ones may not understand or comprehend, but they could be explained by the reader. The book may be too hard for beginner readers. ~ Wish ~ I wish all pronouns of Jesus were capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you are looking for an Easter book for toddlers about Jesus and His love, this would be a lovely addition to a child’s basket this year. Thanks to Hachette Book Group, WorthyKids, and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

This is a great tool to communicate the true importance of Easter to your young child. The book does utilize the word “die” when describing Jesus’ crucifixion and images of the cross. My 2 year old enjoys listening to this simple text, easy to read book many times in a row. Happy Easter all, He is risen!
