In the book a women who has had her life thread severed but is still living commits murder and Io sees this happen. She can also see threads that bind soul mates together and in the book Io meets hers. I love the cover on The Threads That Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou it pulled me in. I really love the illustration and the color palette that was used very pretty colors. I really enjoyed the plot of this story it grabs the attention of the reader and pull you in pretty fast. I loved the part where Io meets her soul mate and sees the thread binding them together it was very cute. I reccomend reading this book if you love Young Adult or Middle Grade novels that deal with the Greeks.

Beautiful YA mythology
First, the cover for this book is phenomenal. I wanted to read it based on just the cover art and for how amazing the synopsis sounded. This book wasn’t what I expected and I was so happy about that. I’m not familiar with this level of Greek mythology so I was pleasantly surprised about how unique it felt. I got invested into it pretty quickly. The mystery was interesting and I wanted to follow along with Edie & Io the whole time. I was rooting for them as a fated pair and loved seeing them work together. This fantasy world felt so rich and alive and unlike other fantasy worlds. I was actually able to follow along and understand what was going on. You can tell the author put a lot of time into the world building and the different types of abilities within the world. Seeing all the different types of powers people possessed was so fun. I also loved Io and her friends. Nico seemed really cute and I hope he comes back more. Not everyone can be good and not everyone can be bad. Something that might seem evil may just be “necessary”. I loved how many red herrings and plots twists were put throughout. The only thing that irked me was the end with Thais and Ava. It didn’t really make too much sense to me. Ava just ignored everything she heard for someone she hasn’t seen around in 2 years? Maybe it can be explained in the next book what she was thinking. All in all the pacing was good and the story was beautifully written. I liked how the book was split into 3 parts for the 3 sisters. I can’t wait for the next book for vengeance!!

Complex, unique fantasy based on Greek mythology
Threads That Bind is a fantasy/mystery involving a magic system in which some of the characters (the Other-born) are descended from Greek gods and share their powers. Io and her sisters are descended from the Fates; she is a Cutter who can see and cut the Threads between people, things and places. The story also incorporates romance, humor, politics, gangs and family dynamics. The world building and magic system are detailed, complex, original, vivid and fascinating. There are fantastic action scenes, a strong, determined heroine, an atmospheric post-apocalyptic city which floods intermittently, a large, interesting cast of characters and shocking twists. Threads That Bind was a fun, captivating read but could sometimes be confusing because there was so much going on. The ending leaves the reader with many questions but happily, there is a sequel.

interesting YA fiction
People are connected to life and that which they love by threads. The Fate-born have abilities to weave, draw, or cut threads. Io works as a private investigator, using her abilities to her advantage. When women start being abducted and their life-threads maimed, Io investigates, finding her estranged sister mixed up with a suspect. THREADS THAT BIND was an interesting blend of fantasy, mythology, mystery, and romance. I’ve read other books with some sort of “threads of fate” premise, but this one was quite unique and intriguing. I loved how Greek mythology was wrapped into the story. The world-building was fantastic and the characters compelling. The pacing did feel a little inconsistent overall, though that didn’t stop me from turning pages to find out what would happen next. The ending is a cliffhanger and left me wanting more. I’ll be waiting for the next book to be released. THREADS THAT BIND was a great YA genre-mixing book that I’d recommend. It’s book one of Kika Hatzopoulou’s Threads That Bind series. I’m looking forward to continuing to read future books.
