Unable to accept the separation, Ed's expressed his love by taking a dozen roses to her every day for years. However, his thirst to reunite landed him in court on a misdemeanor stalking charge as Julie was equally committed to her decision.

Ed's then shifted his pursuit of Julie to vigorously defending himself as taking flowers was characterized as stalking; or, purposely creating fear in another. He provides candid accounts of his trial and appeal and his struggle with ineffective representation while navigating the complexities of the legal system. He describes the harrowing experience of incarceration in a deplorable jail and the toll of the conviction on his reputation. The court-ordered therapy sessions with Dr. Manning were to have Ed confront the delicate balance between love and obsession and accept the intrinsic values of personal boundaries and consent.
