- In most of the country, the rules for success are simply full sun and well-drained humus-rich soil. Peonies even relish cold winters because they need chilling for bud formation. In zones 8 and higher they are harder to grow. Choose your location wisely so that they can be left alone once planted. Plant away from trees or shrubs as peonies do not like to compete for food.

What sets these Peony roots apart from our other Sarah Bernhardt Peonies are its economy sized roots of 1/2 eyes. These economy sized roots are smaller (less eyes) than our standard sized peonies, but they will eventually grow into the same sized plants and flowers. It will just take a little longer for them to get grown and established. They will save you money however and are a seasonal best buy. More bang for the buck!
