Description

Book Synopsis

«Semen y castigo.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

"Semen and punishment. Tell me where the semen is and I'll tell you who's to blame."

Body and soul: This dichotomy is the subtle but definitive thread that runs through the stories in this collection. Bodies and souls of men and women who come together and drift apart, driven by illusions and misunderstandings. For the author, a "love" story with a happy ending is nothing short of a miracle, quotation marks non-negotiable.

Once again, Catalina Murillo shows us her skill at analyzing the human psyche, peeling back the layers of her characters. As in all her works, the act of telling her story leads her to speculate on the nature of storytelling. This is a collection that spans a wide range of tones, eras and geographies. One story is a conversation between the author and a character from one of her earlier works; another reveals how she came up with the plot. Sometimes her voice is clearly present while at others, it disappears.

Throughout, the goal is to make us think, until we wonder: "how did it take me so long to become...me?"
