I am disappointed with the Watkins food coloring. It took a whole bottle of the food coloring to make a box of light blue cupcakes.

I needed a “natural” food dye for a cake, but they didn’t want to spend a ton of money on the fancy stuff. This dye worked ok, but was pretty muted. I used almost the entire bottle of blue for like 3 cups of frosting and it was still a light blue. Don’t expect to get super vibrant colors. If you want bright colors with plant based dyes you will need to look elsewhere. If you’re ok with pastels, this will work. Just don’t mix it with regular food dye- I tried using this red with my regular gel blue to make purple and the red got VERY overpowered. I got it to a lavender, with it eventually turning grey by the end of the day.

This doesn’t work. I was trying to color a small batch of frosting and used half a bottle of blue and a quarter bottle of red and it just turned a light gray color. Super expensive for no results.

Exactly what I wanted, natural food dyes. It won’t be like artificial dyes; it’s natural, just important to remember that but much better for our bodies and kids. I wasn’t a big believer but tried removing artificial from my middle daughter, red and yellow were the biggest culprits that effected her behavior (in fake food dyes). They should advertise the more accurate color tone. People wouldn’t feel so misled, but I didn’t figure it would be the same because it is natural colors.

This is great if you have someone with dye allergies, but I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking for any true colors. The red is a red-violet, not a true red. The green a chartreuse, not a true green. The yellow is fine. The blue is a super light blue. My package also came with some of the red leaked into the box, and the green was a much thicker consistency than the rest.

Great ingredients, needs more drops to concentrate color

Love that the ingredients are plant based and not the artificial dyes that are associated with endocrinology/neurological disruptions. Depending on what you are using it for, you will need more drops than the mainstream artificial food dyes. This trade off is worth it in my opinion since it’s way less harmful to the body but we still get to apply color.

Colors were different than listed. Would be good for easter eggs or frosting cookies but not for making traditional red and green Christmas treats. Green Was Grinch Green and Red was Fushia/Purple

Natural Food Coloring

I am excited to see that Target is carrying a natural food coloring. When I’m cooking and baking at home, I don’t want to add anything that’s not real food. So it’s great that now I can occasionally dye food items in a natural way. The colors are more subdued than traditional food dye, but it’s worth it to know I’m not feeding my family that not-so-great stuff in regular food dye.

I’m so happy I read the reviews before purchasing! Most of the bad reviews are of people that don’t understand “no artificial dyes”. Of course these are going to have a different hue then the toxic dyes! If you are trying to make a safer treat for you and your family buy this dye!

Don’t buy!! Waste of money. The red is purple??? Purple doesn’t work for candy canes, so I wasted an entire batch of royal icing. Not only that, I didn’t have anything else to dye my frosting with, so I have to run to go get more to complete my cookies.
