Where the Road Bends is a lovely historical romance that winds down the roads of forgiveness, redemption, and unconditional love. The characters are so unique in this story, especially the hero, Quincy. I loved his half ruffian/half gentleman charm, and the way he always sought to pay his good fortune forward to the less fortunate. I also appreciated the slow-burn romance between Norah and Quincy. They had the familiarity of old friends with the excitement of new affection. And I loved the family feel of Quincy’s hotel. Mrs. Dover and Nels were adorable and added to the charm of Quincy’s family. And I was so happy to see Sam, from A Life Once Dreamed, again. He’s such a fine man, it was fun to learn more of his story and watch him open his heart after such heartache. Overall, this story was soft and sweet with beautiful lessons on how to deal with life’s harder moments. Fans of historical romance will not want to miss this novel by Rachel Fordham. She writes excellent stories with characters you can cheer on in their journey. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Norah lost both her parents early in her life. Because her father had been a gambler, his death left Norah in terrible financial shape. In an attempt to hold onto her family farm, she was willing to marry someone she didn't love. But Norah was taken in by a scamp, who didn't want her, just her farm. After he took her land, she was left with nothing but the clothes on her back. Penniless and without food, the only place she could get a job was at the notorious Whetted Whistle, owned by a scoundrel named Percy. Norah is beaten, bruised and has a broken arm, when Quincy, the horribly wounded man she rescued years earlier, comes back into her life, and saves her from Percy. Once broke and living on the streets, Quincy is now prosperous and the owner of multiple businesses. He takes Norah to his home to recover. He still adores her, so he doesn't want to tell her the truth of how he turned his life around. Will Quincy be successful in keeping Norah in the dark about his source of seed money? Will Norah leave if she finds out where Quincy got the money? Is she being followed? Will Percy track her down, and be able to force her back to work for him? Can people with a past realize they can start over, and be free? This five-star book will be enjoyed by those who like thrilling tales mixed with romance told from a Christian point-of-view. Revell Books has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Where the Road Bends, for the purpose of review.

Topic or themes I saw: Being an outcast/outsider. The power of kindness. Redemption from a painful past. Dreams. The desire to be happy accompanied by the fear of not wanting to get your hopes up because you aren’t sure good things will happen to you. Who it may interest: Anyone who loves a heart warming historical romance with elements of women’s fiction. Story: Early on, I thought I had figured out where this story was headed. Not too far into the book Rachel totally shook that up. I adore books that surprise me in all the right ways. The characters were very real to me and I felt I was in the scenes. I also loved how the author wove threads through the whole book that connected at some point. It was a gentle, heartwarming story. Ease of reading: Easy Main takeaway: The painful things we face, they don’t have to derail us, we can hold onto hope for a different future. A favorite quote: “Scars do not only come from physical wounds. Some of the deepest wounds are unseen.” Thank you to Revell for gifting me a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Where the Road Bends by Rachel Fordham is an amazing story. I’ll start off by saying I honestly could not put this book down. I’ve read quite few books lately but this one tops them all. Nora King is left on her own in her family farm in Iowa in 1880. Her parents has both passed and she is in desperate need of funds to continue the farm. She is engaged to Jake, who will help with the finances, however this is a marriage of connivence. Suddenly she finds a man bruised and beat up on her property. She nurses him back to health but isn’t sure what to do since her intended will not be happy when he discovers she is nursing another man in her home. What will Nora do? Nora quickly realizes the man she is helping, Quincy is not the same as her intended Jake. Quincy is rather unique and the way she feels around Quincy is not how she feels around Jake. This book was intriguing and fascinating. Twist and turns that I did not anticipate. As I said I could not put the book down. Rachel weaves the story together in such a way that keeps the reader captivated. I was given a free copy of this book for my honest review. I am delighted to recommend this book and encourage everyone to grab a copy to read. Enjoy the story!

Norah King has lost her family and is now on the brink of losing her family land. Agreeing to marry a man she hardly knows and doesn’t love seems the only solution to her problem. But on the cusp of her wedding, she takes in an injured man, which changes both the trajectory of her life as well as his. Encouraged by Norah, Quincy Barnes’s leaves Norah’s farm with hope for the future and the desire to make his life count. This novel was set in in Iowa in the 1880’s. Norah exudes hope and determination even when things are going wrong. I liked her strong character and her resolve to make the best of her circumstances. And Quincy is hardworking and compassion towards others that have encountered difficult life situations. His character is a juxtaposition between his career as a fighter and the compassion he feels for the marginalized. The plot was well thought out and unique. Although I didn’t think the plot was particularly complex and was somewhat predictable. The villain was expected, and the climax was resolved in a relatively short period of time. Norah and Quincy’s romance was pure and sweet. The supporting characters were likable and added value to the story. One of the main themes of the book was redemption, which is seen in both Norah and Quincy’s stories but also in some of the supporting characters. I would recommend reading this book if you like historical romance.

This novel is one of my favorites from Rachel Fordham. Her writing style is easy to read yet the storyline has such depth. Unexpected turns in the plot continue to push the reader through at a perfect pace while the spiritual arc unfolds such a beautiful journey... -For Norah- Can each of us claim our own list of dreams? What dreams must we give up in order to keep a life that we love? What sacrifices have to be made? A life without love, children, happiness? -For Quincy- What if one person had faith in you, told you that you didn’t have to continually pay for your past, that you could press on and make a good life if you would make God your guide, love others and believe in yourself? What if you could step into the life of another person and make sure that what happened to you wasn’t repeated and never happened to a frightened and lost soul? Along with an engaging storyline, Fordham is masterful at pulling in minor characters from previous novels that readers beg to see again. Giving nods, albeit Easter eggs, to her previous stories, she gains many a smile from her loyal readers as she writes them into familiar territory. Her writing captures us once again, leading us to prop our feet up and lose sleep because another Rachel Fordham story is in our hands. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

3.5 stars "This land, her father had said before he died, was their legacy. It was the backdrop of their story - their wrestle and toil - and their love." And Norah King would do anything to keep it. Even marry a virtual stranger who clearly wanted the property first and a young bride second. Then one day, along came Quincy. . . . . actually, Quincy didn't "come along", his body was dumped . . . along her creek bank, ready and waiting for the vultures that were circling overhead alerting Norah to his presence . . . his very large presence. Nursing Quincy back to health is only the beginning of their story. The rest takes many twists, turns and "bends in the road" before Norah comes to the hard-earned conclusion that her father's real legacy had been "the happiness in our home, and the way we stuck together and kept going even when life was hard. Family was our legacy . . . ". A really sweet story, full of multiple heartaches and an abundance of blessings. "I told you once I dreamed of dancing. I still dream of that, but now I'd like that dance to be with you." I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.

This book caught my attention the minute I started to read it. This historical fiction was so good. The characters were well developed and I loved reading about them. Norah King is set to marry a man she barely knows that can help her keep her family land. Through unexpected events, she finds Quincy Barnes, near to death and nurses him back to health. The story continues and just keeps getting better. The connection between Norah and Quincy has to end due to Norah's upcoming marriage. They cross paths later and the friendship they had nurtured is built on friendship and good communication. Yet there is much to overcome and work through. And there are parts that will surprise you. I enjoyed the interaction with the townspeople and the little historical town in which the story takes place. I loved the way it was written, the detail, the characters and the events that tied it all together. You will not want to miss this excellent book. I will be watching for more books by this author, that's a sure fact! I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishers. All views are my honest opinion.

“You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope . . . I have loved none but you.” —Jane Austen, Persuasion When a book opens with Jane Austen, you know it’s going to be good. I declare it now, Captain Wentworth’s letter is the most romantic piece of literature. Truly, amazing. I am a sucker when it comes to letters between couples. People are able to think about their feelings, really consider what they want to say, and express themselves in a way that is lasting. And what I’ve seen as a common theme amongst Rachel Fordham’s books are the letters that pop up. They’re beautiful and I enjoy the vulnerability her characters put into them. Where the Road Bends has those letters I’m talking about. The little love notes between a couple, oh my heart. This is a sweet second chance romance. Truthfully, I didn’t go into this story knowing the synopsis. I have been skipping those when I trust an author or recommendation from a friend and I love seeing the story fold out on its own. This book is as though you took the story of Jean Valjean, Persuasion, and the song God Bless the Broken Road and mashed them together . It’s beautiful! I loved the characters, the triumph over their struggles, their lessons of truth and honesty, and even a little glimpse into early hometown baseball leagues. Prepare to be swept off your feet as you go on this literary stroll, with your sweet heroine and an ex-pugilist. Who doesn’t love a pugilist hero?? ♥️♥️ Thank you to the author, Rachel Fordham, and Revell for an early copy! These are 100% my feelings/thoughts. I loved it and it is out now!

I really enjoyed this wonderful historical fiction story "Where the Road Bends" by Author Rachel Fordham. What a beautiful story of hope and forgiveness and second chances, despite really difficult situations. Norah King only has her family farm left after her parents pass away. She is young and willing to marry anyone who can help her keep the land. With weeks before her marriage to an older local man, she finds a huge, half-alive man collapsed on her property. She runs for her horse and cart and drags him into the wagon and then into the safety of her home as she cleans up his wounds she finds a bullet. Quincy Barnes wakes up to the care of a small woman with a big heart caring for him. They develop an easy friendship. Quincy ran away from an uncaring family when he was young and has a past he isn't proud of. He is so moved by the care given to him by a complete stranger. "This, my new friend, is more than I deserve. Your kindness and contagious hope in tomorrow is good medicine." Quincy right then and there decides to become a better man. He does the honorable thing and leaves before he can create any problems between his new friend and her intended. They promise each other to hold onto their dreams in the future. Boy do things take many unexpected twists and turns after this point. God can take bad experiences and dispel the darkness and good can come of them. A heartwarming and heart wrenching tale. I really enjoyed all the authentic secondary characters especially Mrs. Dover, Nels, Alice, and Sam. I had to agree with Mrs. Dover on not waiting to tell the truth. I highly recommend this story of grit and hard work, despair, and hope. I loved it! “Nothing in my life has gone how I thought it would, but it’s all getting me to where I want to be. I’d live it all again. It was my road to you.” Reminds me of the song Bless the Broken Road. Thank you to the author and Revell for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

The blurb on the back of the book is just the beginning of this really endearing story. This novel has all three kinds of characters you would expect in a love story. It has the damsel, the knight in shining armor, and the villainous suitor that really makes you hope he does not win the girl. I feel as though she goes through what I would say are much harder times than most damsels in distress. During the book, I find myself hoping and praying that Quincy, the knight in shining armor, is forgiven by Norah, the damsel, for what he has done. This book really drew me in and had me captivated until the very end. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.

I loved this book, the author just kept giving, and I kept page turning! The book opens with a body, and buzzards circling, Norah happens to see the birds and discover the man, and then we see her struggle to help, including throwing rocks at the birds! This book pulled me in and didn't let go, there is so much going on, and second chances, guilt, forgiveness, and living ones faith! I loved how these characters kept giving back to help their fellow man, and didn't step down in times of adversity! There are some unsavory people here, and we wish for them not to succeed, but there are also some that bring a smile, especially Nels. Come and get lost in the 1880's in Iowa! We are gifted with an Epilogue! I received this book through the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
