Q: How prone to breaking are the ice makers?
A: This specific machine breaks for everyone it seems. Mine broke within 8 months since purchasing it, and other people who left reviews say theirs lasted anywhere between a few days to only a year.
submitted byihatewhirlpool - 3 years agoA: Mine broke in 6 days. It no longer senses that it's filled with water. And I didn't pay for extended warrantee because it cost the same amount as the unit itself! I feel ripped off all around.
submitted by - 1 year agoA: My first machine failed after about 2 yrs. The part that failed is a gear mechanism which lifts the tray up and opens the release gate to empty the ice into the storage bin. It's a common whichh fail.

Q: Do I add water or it needs to be connected to waterline?
A: You do not need a water line- this has a resevoir that holds the water and makes the ice from there. You will need an electrical outlet though :-) Hope this helps!

Q: How do you get to the water reservoir in the back of the machine to clean it? I have red mold in that basket every month and I have tried, ice maker cleaning brushes. Next I will try taking it apart
A: Please clean the water reservoir following the instructions. 1) Unplug the machine. 2) Drain all water. 3) Mix a cleaning solution (1 part white vinegar, 1 part warm water). 4) Fill the rear reservoir with the solution. 5) Let it soak for 30 minutes. 6) Scrub what you can reach using the brush. 7) Rinse thoroughly. 8) Run a cleaning cycle. 9) Dry completely. Pink mold thrives in moisture. Leave the lid open and let the reservoir air‑dry fully before using again.
