Pure, detailed sound with outstanding reliability
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Yamaha CD-S303 is exactly what a modern CD player should be—simple, reliable, and focused on sound quality. What impressed me most is the clarity and neutrality of the playback. The sound is clean, detailed, and very well balanced, without artificial warmth or coloration. It pairs especially well with a quality amplifier where you want to hear the recording as it truly is.

Sounds great. Slow disk access.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this to play backing tracks in my church. The sound quality is better than the DVD player it replaced. It goes to standby after 20 minutes. For our use this is bad. However, I found that this option can be turned off. It is slow accessing tracks and reading disk contents. So far this has not proven to be a large problem. Overall I am satisfied with this CD player.

Exceptional Sound Quality
I have two of these, one with Parasound A21+ , Sonamp 750, Klipsch Corwall IV's & Focals and it sounds amazing. The other is with Parasound 2125, 2225, KEF Kube 15 & KEF KC92 subwoofers and KEF R11 metas and the Yamaha sounds equally amazing. I think one can spend a lot more money but not get any better sound from a CD player. I have a Macintosh CD player and granted my ears aren't the best but i cannot HEAR the difference. I don't think one can go wrong with this Yamaha CD player, it seems to match the quality I get from my Yamaha musical instruments and music gear.

The sound of my music
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have purchased numerous pieces of great Yamaha audio equipment over the past 30 years The CD-S303 continues that tradition. It is solidly built (transport, case & electronics) and sounds great. I love the digital coax output. Depending on the recording, I use the player's on-board Burr-Brown DAC for a bit more musicality, or bypass the on-board DAC and send the digital signal to an outboard Analog Devices DAC for more linearity and better SNR. Both DACs are audiophile quality though. Regarding the Pure Direct mode, can't hear a difference between the on or off mode. I'm sure there is. But my older ears just don't hear it. Would I buy a Yamaha product like this again? You bet I would.

Just what was needed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The product works seamlessly as expected. It is a single tray CD changer so no mini-servo motor with a belt to go bad (as did my last CD changer). If you review the Yamaha reviews their 5 CD multi-changer (like all others) receives markedly lower reviews. The reasons are patently obviously, it is another example of a servo device to go wrong in time. One thing I really liked about Yamaha was a two (2) year warranty. This made having to purchase "insurance" completely unnecessary and a waste of money since any failure within 2 years is on Yamaha, NOT the insurance company at all. Therefore you can pay $50+ dollars for a 3 year protection, but in actual fact you are actually paying all that for merely one year, the third.

Good, with one complaint
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the CD player very much and use it daily to listen to music during breakfast. My one complaint is the very tiny lettering on the remote's keyboard. I use the (very good) "program" feature most days, but have found that the numbers for the numerical keys were so tiny that I needed to enlarge them with a marker. Why not use the blank space at the bottom of the remote to provide larger labels?

This CD Player completed my system
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This CD player fulfilled all my expectations as I needed it to complete my system. I goes well with my Yamaha Network Receiver R-N2000A. I do have a streamer and ripper as well, but as in case of an internet failure, I will not be able to listen to music. Also, here and there it is nice to select a CD and manually load it.

Exceptional CD player
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I couldn't be happier with this Yamaha CD player. From the moment I connected it to my system, the improvement in clarity and depth was unmistakable. Yamaha has a reputation for clean, natural sound, and this unit absolutely delivers—warm lows, detailed mids, and crisp highs without ever feeling overly processed. The build quality is outstanding as well: solid chassis, smooth-loading tray, and controls that feel precise rather than flimsy. It integrates seamlessly into a modern setup, yet has that classic, no-nonsense Yamaha design that looks great in a rack. Playback has been flawless—no skipping, no noise, just reliable performance even with older discs. If you still love the tactile experience and audio fidelity of CDs, this player is an excellent choice. It's proof that physical media still has a place in high-quality listening. Strongly recommended.

For me…No choice but Yamaha
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was 1977 and at fourteen I had been saving all my money I had made working many odd jobs. I was saving for my first real stereo. At the time the best hi fi store in my area was Magnolia Hi Fi , and I had been looking at and testing out stereo receivers. The one that stood out that I could afford was the Yamaha CR-620. I eventually saved enough to buy it along with a pair of Advent speakers. The sound quality was amazing and all my friends would come over and be in awe of my stereo. I had that stereo for 25 years and to this day I will buy no other brand. When I needed a CD player to go with my Yamaha receiver I had purchased used on Facebook marketplace the only new piece I bought was the Yamaha CD player. My stereo is fully analog which I believe produces the best sound. I have it set up in my woodshop, and I gives me great joy every time I play it , and it takes me back when I was fourteen with my new CR-620.

CD-S303
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent performance, great sound, simple to use. I would prefer a brighter power indicator and silver color on the function push buttons to be visible and contrast the black background.

Compact Disc Perfection !!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Chose to purchase this Yamaha CD Player over other brands and models. I am so thankful that I made the right choice. It is connected to another Yamaha product .. the A-S501 integrated amplifier. Listening to vocalists like Mary Barrett and Linda Ronstadt is pure perfection !! 'Nuff Said !! Thank you #SWEEPSTAKES Yamaha for such wonderful products !!

What a treat!
I purchased this player to install in my main audio system that hadn't had a CD player for a few years. The original player flaked out many years ago so I used a hybrid DVR/DVD player instead. That unit was sold as I didn't need it anymore. I thought I would use my BluRay player as a source but the BD unit is hooked to an AV receiver that has ARC so every time I turn it on, the AV receiver and the TV turn on! The AV receiver is hooked to a 5.1 sound system that works for video but not for full range music. The audio system consists of a Carver C5 preamp and a TFM125 power amp, and DBX Soundfield 10 speakers. A real vintage set up! Once I hooked up the CD-S303 and played some CDs, I was thrilled with the result. I do have a smaller audio system in my studio that sounds decent, but this Yamaha player is fabulous and the difference is noticeable. The sound is clean and comes through without artificial coloring. I used to have an EQ in the system, mostly for older vinyl LPs but I definitely won't need an EQ with this player as it handles older CDs and lower quality recordings on CD-Rs well. For the price this is a great player and will fit a new as well as vintage system
