Works as it should. Solid construction and craftsmanship. The oval shape makes it easy to use, even for someone not accustomed to honing their blades. Feels like it will hold up for many years of use.

Does the job well. My old steel needed replacing & this one has honed the edge on my knives again. It is sturdy and easy to use, I like the oval design. It just barely fits in my Zwilling knife block though. I must insert it at an angle to the square slot & a little over an inch of the steel stays exposed, but otherwise I am happy with my purchase.
Better than expected!

Great way to keep your knives sharper longer

I never knew what to do with this long metal rod, but I looked into it and found that it is used to hone knives between sharpenings so that the knife stays sharper, longer. This is a great honing steel because of the oval shape that gives one side a little bit of a flatter side to stabilize the steel.

This is a competent honing steel. I prefer the handle on the other steel from The Zwilling Pro line.

It's important to maintain the edge of your knives to have the best and sharpest cutting experience each time you use them. A honing steel is the key to keeping your knives in alignment in between annual sharpening. This steel is oval instead of round providing more surface area for your knife edge and it is 62 on the hardness scale meaning even your hardest knives can be honed and realigned using this steel.

Great oval steel for your honing purposes. Better than most round steels and best for use in between using knives on a daily basis and the 1-2x/yr. sharpening process. This one has a great grip on it, so no slippage while using! Feels sturdy and you can hang on the wall for better access.

The steel will keep your knives in shape. It is made from a highly carbonized and hard chrome-plated steel ensure a good sharpening result. I like the grip of the handle, won't slip in your hands.

I use it weekly and my knives stay sharp. It's that simple. I watched a video on the website that was very helpful. It showed the angle and pressure and now I've perfected the technique.

This is a great stable honing steel. Lot's of surface space to work with and has enough weight to feel substantial. The grip on the handle is not only handsome looking but feels secure in the hand.
Optimal Oval Steel

Making regular use of a honing steel will reduce the frequency with which you have to sharpen your knives. This 12 inch oval steel is optimal to achieve the best results, as it provides more surface contact with the edge so it requires fewer strokes. Length also permits honing of longer knife blades.
Wider the better!

An oval 12" honing steel covers wider than a round steel. Honing should be used regularly in between usage and sharpening. This steel can handle a knife with up to probably 60 rockwell to 62. This honing steel is a maintenance tool, to align the blade’s edge and stays sharpened to it's angle and to increase cutting efficiency. It is also recommended purchasing the super-eraser to clean any metal residue buildup.
Try it!

Practice makes perfect. Once you master the technique, you will use this steel everytime you pick up your knives. this will prolong the life of your blades and keep them sharper for a longer period of time. The 12" gives you enough room for the 10" blade. This is an excellent quality steel.

Great tool to maintain your knives. Keeps them sharp in between professional sharpenings. This particular steel is more oval in shape, some feel that this is easier to use than the round steel. I have tried both and do not have a preference.
