Power ratings vary by design. Many 8" subwoofers list around 300W RMS. Compact self-powered underseat units commonly list lower RMS (for example ~125W). Peak or dynamic figures are often much higher — examples in the results show 600W–900W peaks and some powered designs listing up to 1200W dynamic. Always check whether a figure is RMS (continuous) or peak/dynamic when comparing models.
8" subwoofers appear in several styles: preloaded wedge or trunk enclosures for vehicles, shallow-profile underseat units designed to fit tight spaces, down-firing 8" drivers integrated into floorstanding speakers, and portable subwoofers that can be placed vertically or horizontally.
Outdoor 8" models may feature IP65 dust/water protection, polypropylene woofers suited to outdoor exposure, corrosion-resistant connectors, adjustable mounting hardware, and power handling ratings around 120W in the examples provided.
Some shallow 8" subwoofers are designed for tight vehicle spaces with mounting depths under 5 inches — example mounting depths listed include 2-11/16" — and underseat enclosures with overall heights under 3" for very compact installations.
Powered 8" subs commonly include manual low-pass crossover controls, level (gain) and bass-boost adjustments, phase inversion switches, and support for a wired remote level control. Portable models may also offer high-pass/full-range switches and LED status indicators.
