Foundation sticks offer coverage from sheer/light to medium and full. Many formulas are buildable — apply a light layer for a natural finish or layer for medium-to-full coverage.
Finishes range from matte to dewy or luminous (including glossy or “glass-skin” effects). Some products explicitly market a matte finish while others emphasize a dewy, wet-look radiance.
Shade ranges vary widely: some lines offer basic light-to-medium palettes, while others advertise broad or “All Skin Tones” assortments. Examples include collections with around 15 flexible shades to cover many complexions.
Many sticks are multi-use: they can function as foundation, concealer, highlighter, blush, eyeshadow, or lip color. Some complexion sticks explicitly combine foundation and concealer in one product.
Many stick formulas are described as highly blendable and buildable: they “melt” into the skin, blend easily, and allow layering to increase glow or coverage as needed.
