Glitter heat-transfer vinyl commonly applies to cotton, polyester, poly/cotton blends, leather and sublimated polyester. Some formulations are also designed to bond to other surfaces (even wood), so check the product notes for any specific compatibility rules.

Glitter iron-on is sold in sheets and rolls in a range of sizes. Typical examples include about 11.8 by 36 inches and 12 by 19 inches for larger formats, and smaller transfer sheets such as 13 by 12 inches and 11 by 8.5 inches.

Many glitter iron-on materials are optimized for use with electronic cutting machines and support automatic cut settings in design software. Some formulations are designed to be cut without a cutting mat, making them easier to load, cut and batch-apply with heat.

Glitter iron-on products are commonly made from vinyl, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), or other plastic-based transfer sheet materials.

Some glitter heat-transfer materials are CPSIA certified and described as CPSIA-compliant and lead- and phthalate-free, indicating they are intended to meet safety standards for children's clothing.
