A 1-to-4 HDMI splitter takes a single HDMI source and duplicates that same video and audio signal to four HDMI outputs so all connected displays show identical content simultaneously.
Maximum reliable cable length depends on the splitter, cable quality, and resolution. Typical guidance from listings is up to about 5 meters (≈16 ft) for reliable 4K@60Hz and up to around 10 meters (≈33 ft) for 4K@30Hz; longer runs sometimes require an amplified cable or active extenders. Check the product specs for the vendor’s recommended lengths.
Scaling/downscaling converts the source resolution to a lower output resolution so mixed displays can show the same content. For example, a splitter can downscale 4K to 1080p on certain outputs. Some units also offer EDID management with manual or automatic scaling modes to control which resolution is sent to all displays.
4-way HDMI splitters duplicate (mirror) the input signal to all outputs. They do not provide independent/extended displays; if you need different content on each screen, use an HDMI matrix or separate outputs from the source device.
4-way HDMI splitters are commonly compatible with a wide range of HDMI devices: gaming consoles, Blu-ray/DVD players, set-top boxes, streaming media players, computers, and HDTVs/monitors/projectors. Check the splitter’s specifications to confirm compatibility with your specific source and display models.
