Worm castings are suitable for a wide range of plants, including houseplants, vegetables, herbs, flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns. They are appropriate for both indoor and outdoor use.

Common methods include: sprinkling a small amount above the root zone (for example a handful or about half a cup), adding castings to the planting hole during transplanting or seeding, using them as a top dressing or side dressing, or working them into potting and seed‑starting mixes.

Worm castings help form soil aggregates that alleviate compaction and crusting, improve aeration and drainage, and increase the soil’s water‑holding capacity, which can also reduce erosion.
