Beautiful Pattern.. but only seen from one side

I love this pattern and the runner size! Looks great. The only thing that's strange.. you only see the pattern well from one side. From the other side, the pattern appears gone and the rug looks solid white/grey. Also, I bought the pad to go underneath. I wish the pad was more narrow than the rug so you don't see it poking out.
