About the Author

George Washington (1732-1799) commanded the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and was the first President of the United States.

Alexander Hamilton (1755-1757) was an American statesman, politician and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was a trusted member of President Washington's first cabinet and played a key role in defending and ratifying the U.S. Constitution.

James Madison (1751-1836) was Americas fourth president, serving in office from 1809 to 1817. He wrote the first drafts of the U.S. Constitution and established the Democrat Republican Party alongside Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was the third president of the United States, serving from 1801-1809, and wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Robert J. Allison is Professor of History at Suffolk University in Boston and specializes in the history of the American Revolution and the Early Republic. He is the author of The American Revolution: A Very Short Introduction and The Boston Tea Party among other books.
