Q: can these be use for adults ?

submitted by Helen - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes. This just doesn't have any fragrance which could be irritating to sensitive skin.

submitted byella - 8 years ago
  • A: Hi Helen, yes this all-in-one soap can be used on children, adults, even pets!

submitted byTarget Beauty Consulting - 8 years ago

  • A: Yes! It’s a great alternative if you want to use something more natural and free of unnecessary chemicals, fragrances, etc. I also use this to wash my cat when we wash her cat box(about once a month) since it’s more natural and fragrant free :)

submitted byHeather - 6 years ago
  • A: Yes, absolutely. This baby version is actually also used by hikers and campers when camping close to bear country (since it's non-toxic and biodegradable and is a lot less naturally scented compared to the other Dr. Bronne'rs soaps like the Tea Tree, Lavender, Almond, etc) - it's actually how we started using it when we bought it at REI. It's also can be used to wash dishes but I prefer the soapy suds version from Dr. Bronner's (however Target doesn't carry that one). I have sensitive skin and seems to do well with all Dr. Bronner's soaps.

Q: can this be used as shampoo as well?

submitted by newmom - 7 years ago
  • A: I do use this as my primary shampoo as it's as close to pure as any product can be. Very mild, my hair feels clean without the added perfumes (which I'm allergic to). I use this as my one stop product in the bath. Every other hair wash I do use conditioner.

submitted byTP - 7 years ago
  • A: This is a very mild soap, but I would not use as shampoo because on the bottle it says to keep out of your eyes

submitted byLAR - 7 years ago
  • A: You can use it as a shampoo, but if you're not used to soap as shampoo I recommend following with a citric acid rinse (diluted apple cider vinegar is a good option) to smooth your hair follicle back down or your hair might feel a bit more tangled.

submitted bySarah - 6 years ago

Q: How long does a bottle of this size typically last? Does a little go a long way?

submitted by mma - 8 years ago
  • A: I highly recommend getting a foam pump dispenser bottle. It will go a very long way, 2 showers a day, it lasted me 5 months.

submitted byTargetlover - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi Mma, we've found that this castile soap will last several months, especially when you dilute the soap, or combine it with water.

submitted byTarget Beauty Consulting - 8 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: As far as how much to use, I'd say it's about the same as any other liquid soap. So if you how long your old soap lasts, compare the size of containers to see how long this one will last. If cost is an issue, I suspect there are other brands of liquid castile soap, probably just as good, and Dr Bronner isn't a bargain brand. I know there are inexpensive castile bar soaps commonly available.

Q: Can I use this as liquid hand soap replacement? And what is the best way to bottle it, diluted in water with a foaming dispenser or straight from the Dr. Bronners bottle to a smaller dispenser?

submitted by MJ - 4 years ago
  • A: Hi MJ! The Dr. Bronner's 18-In-1 Hemp Baby Pure Castile Soap when diluted can be used for body, face, mopping-laundry-pets, and clean make-up brushes! Directions will be in bottle, hope this helps :)

submitted byTarget Beauty Consulting - 4 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: Hi MJ! We do not recommend using a standard pump dispenser, sensor dispenser, or wall dispenser with our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps as they can easily clog. Instead, we recommend keeping the soap in its original bottle and using just a drop or two for each handwashing. However, our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps do work well in foaming dispensers! Foaming dispensers “thicken” the soap with water and air. If you decide to use a foaming dispenser, make sure to dilute the soap at a ratio of 1 part soap to 3 parts water. This dilution doesn’t create the issues with clogging that undiluted soap would. Ratio example: 8 oz. bottle = 2 oz. soap (¼ c.) soap and 6 oz. (¾ c.) water; 12 oz. bottle = 3 oz. soap and 9 oz. water. When using a foaming dispenser, we recommend diluting a portion that will be used up within 2 weeks to a month, since we do not add any harsh preservatives in our products that will allow them to last longer than 1 month after being diluted. Using distilled water will be more helpful since hard water can cause natural soap separation.

Q: What's the difference betwen Dr. Bronner's "Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap - Baby Unscented(32oz)" and "Baby Pure Castile Soap Refill Carton - Unscented(32oz)"?

submitted by Hemp - 17 days ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out to us! As of July 2023, we launched our 32 oz. Pure-Castile Liquid Soap Refill Carton as a means to refill the current Dr. Bronner’s post-consumer recycled (PCR) bottles, or other bottles they use, for cleaning and personal care. This packaging is intended to help customers reduce their plastic use by purchasing our beloved pure-castile liquid soaps with 82% less plastic. Rest assured that the product is exactly the same, just with a more sustainable option for refilling. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Q: This product had "18-1 HEMP" on the bottle. But isn't hemp unsafe for pregnant women and babies? The new look takes this "HEMP"word off the bottle, does it mean this product is without hemp now?

submitted by Hemp - 18 days ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us as we take the health and safety of our customers very seriously. Insignificant trace amounts of THC may be found in hemp seed oil, especially if there was trace resin from the flowers still on the hemp seeds when they were pressed into oil. Dr. Bronner’s currently sources organic hemp seed oil from suppliers within the United States. We require a Certificate of Analysis (COA) from all suppliers to validate that each batch of material is within the acceptable US Federal Government limits for THC before it is accepted for use in production, and we sample our incoming raw materials and verify the test results claimed on COAs at our discretion. Per our supplier COAs on file and independent laboratory test results, none of the material we have received has demonstrated trace THC above Dr. Bronner’s internal quality limits of 10 parts per million (ppm) or the US Federal Government’s acceptable limits. Even assuming the inadvertent and complete ingestion of applied lip balm (applied to lips 5 times/day at 0.015 g/application = 0.075 g total), the uptake was less than 1 μg/day. While our toxicological safety assessments of our products have not indicated any concerns for use during pregnancy, if there are concerns based on personal health or experience during pregnancy, we always strongly encourage you to consult your preferred medical professional. If you feel more comfortable avoiding this product, we completely understand. Here is a list of products that we carry without this ingredient: Sal Suds Liquid Cleaner All-One Toothpaste Hand Sanitizer Regenerative Organic Coconut Oil Additionally, with our recent label update, we did officially change the name of our Pure-Castile soaps to be "18-in-1 Pure-Castile Magic Soap," removing "hemp" from the title. While our soap has been called many different names over the years, for the past few decades it's most commonly been known as our “Magic Soap” with many longtime customers even knowing our company as “Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps.” So, in many ways, this update to our name is a return to our roots! Rest assured that this is solely an adjustment to the label/name of our soap and we have not changed the product that you know and love in any way. However, if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know! Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Q: Can I use this to clean eye makeup brushes?

submitted by Jen - 3 months ago
  • A: Thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! Our Pure-Castile Liquid and Pure-Castile Bar soaps work very well to clean makeup brushes. While they work just as well as each other, our Liquid Soap tends to be the most popular option for clean makeup brushes. To clean your makeup brushed with our Liquid Soap, wet the brush and add 1 - 2 drops of our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap (any scent). Gently massage the soap into the bristles making sure soap gets between all of them and then rinse in a small bowl of water. Once clean be sure to air dry the brush in a well-ventilated place. For an example and further information, please check out Lisa Bronner's blog post and video titled Cleaning Makeup Brushes with Castile (https://www.lisabronner.com/cleaning-makeup-brushes-with-dr-bronners-video/). Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Q: Does this smell similar to Johnson’s and Johnson baby soap (yellow bottle)?

submitted by Versatile shoe - 4 months ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! Our Baby-Unscented Pure-Castile Liquid Soap is simple, nourishing and fragrance-free. It contains double the olive oil, which makes our mild & gentle unscented soap good for sensitive skin & babies too (though not tear-free!). While our unscented soap has a very mild scent as there are no essential oils or added fragrances included in this product, we cannot compare the scent of this product to that of the Johnson and Johnson's baby soap. As our products are made up of organic raw materials, variability is expected and causes each batch of Pure-Castile Liquid Soap to be a bit different almost like wine. Each year has its own nuances, and crops can vary season by season. We’ve come to embrace some level of variability as it showcases the behavior of natural agricultural ingredients. This means that our liquid soap can have a green, yellow, or even amber color at times due to the oils used. These oils can also smell stronger, lighter, sweeter, grassier, etc. The viscosity of our soaps is similarly expected to vary slightly. All the raw materials used in our products have an impact on the overall finished good, which is very normal. Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Q: Does this soap suds up like my Almond one? I want to switch my boys to this one but I need it to suds up or I just won’t feel like they’re clean (Yes I’m one of those people Lol)

submitted by K Lucy - 9 months ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! While we do like our bubbles, here’s a few things to consider: Bubbles do not indicate cleaning power. Our love affair with bubbles explains why SLS, the queen bee of bubbling surfactants, is in so many soap products. This soap foams more than many others in the natural realm, but without synthetic foaming agents, it does not have that overflowing amount of bubbles that other conventional soaps do. Hard water contains dissolved minerals in the form of calcium and magnesium. All true soaps, such as castile soap, will react with these minerals to form insoluble stearates, which are visible as a whitish precipitate. This effect can interfere with foaming capabilities and may leave soap scum on surfaces. This whitish precipitate builds up primarily on surfaces where water is left to dry, such as sinks and showers. It is typically not an issue on floors, counters, or other hard surfaces where the castile soap is diluted for cleaning and standing water is mopped or wiped up. We recommend checking out Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green with Lisa Bronner, where she addresses the issue of hard water and soap scum. https://www.lisabronner.com/using-soap-to-test-for-hard-water-video/
