While no product can be “chemical free,” ingredients used in Vanicream Products are carefully vetted by PhD scientists for quality, safety, efficacy and function by reviewing the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) assessment, manufacturer/supplier information, peer reviewed journals, National Institute of Health (NIH) and FDA for their intended use and concentration. Special attention is given to allergenic potential. All new ingredients are tested by the Quality Control Laboratory, and an ingredient review committee who reviews and approves new ingredient submissions. Additionally, all finished products are dermatologist tested by HRIPT (human repeated insult patch test) to evaluate the potential for skin sensitization and/or irritation which also confirms the overall product safety.

Q: Is this shampoo good for very dry hair? It says it removes oil from the scalp so I am thinking it's not good for dry hair?

A: It can be used for all hair types. We recommend using a Conditioner with the shampoo if your hair or scalp is really dry.

Sooo incredibly drying!!! This didn’t make my head itch due to allergens, which is good. But oh my gosh, my scalp and hair were instantly fried with using this just once. And each time I have used it, the same issue. It strips my hair so much and with having fine, curly hair, it’s just not cutting it for me. So expensive for a shampoo that ruins my hair! I suppose it works as an allergen friendly wash, but won’t use it again.

At first I was like ooo this is finally something I’m not allergic to. Nope; started making my hair feel gross and made me lose a lot more hair than usual. Then I started breaking out from it so if you can stay far away. Not sure what they use in here but I see I’m not the only one with these issues. I used both the shampoo and conditioner and oooof is all I can say now

i really love this shampoo it works amazingly !! here are some reasons why i love this product so much are: its fragrance free i have alot allergies to things perfumes/fragrances being one of the biggest ones, it cleans my hair very well, the lather is good and the bottle is easy open and close this is very nice as i have problems with my hands. i will continue purchasing this item

This was like using dish soap on my fine curly hair. Dried it out SO bad and I didn’t even use daily. It was good on my scalp although not nearly as moisturizing as Happy Cappy, a medicated baby shampoo.

I love that this is truly unscented and has no irritating ingredients for my sensitive skin. I use this as a body wash too. The only downside for me is that it makes my hair more dry than the salon shampoo I’d been using before switching to this one.

My allergist recommended this shampoo. I've been using it for over a year. It is the worst product ever! When my hair started falling out, I figured it was because I was using new products and adjusting to my allergies. Unfortunately, it is THIS shampoo. My once-thick hair has become extremely thin. I find myself brushing clumps out of my hair every night. I only want to warn others about the side effects of this product. Please avoid it at all costs!

I don’t normally review but: YOU WILL LOSE AN INSANE AMOUNT OF HAIR! After weeks of use my hair started melting, that’s the best way I can describe it. Handfuls of hair just melting off my scalp every time I ran my fingers through it. I have thick curly hair and I lost about half of my hair in the span of a few days. My hair is finally growing back. This shampoo also worsened my dry scalp. I used this product for a total of 3 weeks. Scary experience! If you have dry scalp, please try Johnson and Johnson! It will change everything! DO NOT USE!

Although it has helped with flakes, I feel like the shampoo strips my scalp too much. It has that squeaky feeling when you use a bar soap on your skin. I tried using less to see if it was the amount I was using, but regardless it still had the same feeling. I would also say it doesn't lather very well which makes it hard to spread the shampoo around. Not bad, but not great.
My fine, oily hair looks greasy by midday :/

I love the face care products from this company, so was excited to try the shampoo and conditioner. Unlike a lot of folks in the reviews, I find it to be too moisturizing or oily for my super fine, oily hair! It does not dry it or my scalp out at all. Love that it’s fragrance free and free of common irritating ingredients. My hair is soft and shiny coming out of the shower. By midday I look like my usual day 2 level of greaseball. 😆 I haven’t given it away yet because I want to see how it goes in summer when I am in pools and fresh water lakes, etc. and needing to wash it more often, which can dry it out.

I bought this hoping it would be good for my sensitive scalp. I have seborrheic dermatitis and need to wash my hair daily to keep my scalp from getting irritated by oils. This stuff did the opposite of what I wanted! It dried out my scalp sooo badly that it got irritated by the dryness. I think this stuff could work well if you have naturally very oily hair/scalp. But if your scalp is just normal or on the dry side, this is likely too harsh of a “sensitive skin” product for you.
