A: Our organic ingredients are intentionally sourced from all over the world, varying from the USA all the way to Sri Lanka. However, each country of origin is subject to change based on supply availability. If, after using our soap, there is residue on your skin, or on any surface, you probably have hard water. The interaction of hard water with any true soap (not synthetic detergent–based soaps) can leave behind a thin film of minerals that appears as residue or “soap scum.” There are two solutions to the problem: either soften the water or use a diluted vinegar rinse to dissolve the mineral film or residue.

To do so, we recommend lathering the bar on the area of skin you wish to shave to create a creamy foam. You can also cut it to fit as a shaving cake in bottom of a shaving cup and then whip up a lather with a wet shaving brush. A: Thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! While we do not make any products specifically for sensitive skin, many of our soaps work very well for those with skin sensitivities. Here is a list of our soaps from least to most moisturizing: Pure-Castile Liquid, Pure-Castile Bar, and Organic Sugar Soap. We have received very positive comments regarding our Baby Unscented and Tea Tree soaps from our customers with skin issues such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, oily skin, or general skin sensitivities. However, we all have different skin, so we would advise first trying our product on a small area of your skin to be sure that it will work for you. For our customers with many sensitivities who are unable to use our scented varieties, we recommend trying our unscented soaps. These products have no essential oils and our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap contains almost double the amount of olive oil, making them milder than the rest. Additionally, our Organic Sugar Soap offers a more moisturizing experience. The first ingredient in our Sugar Soap is organic sucrose, which is a natural humectant that draws moisture into the skin and hair. As a result, these soaps tend to be a bit more hydrating than our classic Pure-Castile Soaps. These soaps also contain shikakai powder, used in India for centuries as a gentle conditioner for skin and hair, making them ideal for washing hair (remember to use an acidic conditioning rinse). As mentioned above, we do not make soaps specific to certain skin conditions, although they may help in some cases. We would still recommend that you first consult these products with your dermatologist, to see which products they may recommend that are more suitable for your skin. A: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! While you can dilute our Pure-Castile Liquid soap, rest assured that this is not necessary for all uses and mostly comes down to preference. For example, some may prefer just pouring a few drops into their hands for handwashing, and others may prefer to dilute our soap at a 1:3 ratio in a foaming pump. It's truly up to you and your needs. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind when first getting started with our Pure-Castile Soap. Firstly, our soap is 2 - 3 times more concentrated than most soaps on the market; therefore, less is definitely more. Additionally, diluting our soap with water does reduce its shelf life because we do not add any harsh preservatives to our products. Generally, diluting with tap or filtered water results in a shelf life of about 2 weeks to a month, while dilutions with distilled water can last up to 6 months. Using distilled water can also reduce natural soap separation that may occur with hard water. Please keep in mind that we encourage cleaning your containers out thoroughly before refilling them with diluted soap to promote freshness from batch to batch. Lastly, it's important to note that our Liquid Soap does not work well with pump dispensers. We have tested a variety of pumps and dilutions over the years with little success. Inevitably, the very concentrated soap clogs the pump. We recommend keeping the soap in its original bottle and using just a drop or two for each handwashing. On the other hand, our Liquid Soap does works very well in foaming dispensers. Foaming dispensers “thicken” the soap with water and air producing a velvety cloud of soap. If you decide to use a foaming dispenser, make sure to dilute the soap at a ratio of 1 part soap to 3 parts water.
