Q: Does anyone have problems/issues's with their Ubbi's really smelling when they have the lid open? Despite having an empty trash bag inside....? I know some smells can linger in many trash cans, but this seems to be different.

A: Hi there! The Ubbi diaper pail is made of steel and paired with rubber seals to create an airtight container that keeps all odors locked inside. Due to its contents the inside of the pail can smell and when the lids are opened, some odors may escape, but our promise is that the odors will not permeate through the steel into the room when the lids are closed.The Ubbi diaper pail does not require any special refills and can be used with any standard size kitchen trash bag which allows for more frequent bag changing. We do have a lavender-scented odor absorbing gel as well as our lavender-scented diaper sacks to individually wrap diapers to help keep the smell at bay.

Ive tried everything to make it not stink- deodorizers, bleach, letting it sit in the sun for hours- and nothing helps. This morning I walked into my sons room after him sleeping with the door shut for 11 hours and the whole room smelled of the diaper pail, and the lid was shut. Ive determined its just time to get rid of the pail sadly.

Q: Is the door on the top of pail user friendly? I think I would miss the foot pedal in the midst of changing a fussy baby.

A: Yes totally easy. Agree with the response above. We've had the foot petal and it stinks up the place after opening it.
submitted byMom of three - 5 years agoA: Hi there! The sliding lid of the Ubbi diaper pail can easily be used with one hand while dealing with a squirming baby! The sliding lid is actually engaged with a magnet to further keep the container airtight, but just simply slightly push down on the handle and slide the lid back. To close the sliding lid, there is no need to push down on the handle because the magnet is already disengaged so just slide it back into the closed position. The reason that the Ubbi diaper pail was designed with a sliding lid rather than a foot pedal is because the sliding lid minimizes air disruption and is only large enough to quickly drop in a tightly rolled up diaper whereas pails with foot pedals maximize air disruption and can further waft odors into the air. For reference the pail holds a 13-gallon bag so anything similar will work just fine. In addition to the cloth liners, you can also use cloth diapers!

But comparable to other diaper pails I have owned it’s great! Number one it’s great looking! Does not require a certain bag for the pail which is super amazing because you save money! I like that it has a lock to prevent children from opening! Easy to change! Definitely has odor control but like I said if a room it is in gets overly warm it does not have much odor control! I definitely do recommend over other brands though!

Its powder coated steel construction is the biggest advantage which does a far better job at containing smells compared to plastic alternatives. The rubber seals around the lid add an extra layer of protection by ensuring unpleasant odors stay locked inside. It is convenient for me as it does not require special bags. I can use all regular trash bags. It makes more cost effective. The sliding lid is a thoughtful design. It minimizes air disruption when opening and closing. Odors do not escape easily. The childproof lock is a must have to prevent little hands from getting into places they should not. Holding up 55 newborn sized diapers means good size diaper trash for my place. We picked this one since it doesn't take any special bags and it's been a great purchase. It keeps the smells inside and holds a good amount. We usually like to empty it every couple days so it doesn't get to full. We just buy cheap trash bags so it's cost effective compared to other pails that require special bags.

This was a gift & I’ve been using for 2 months and it isn’t keeping the odor in. I have to keep the air purifier on. The genie is plastic and I had no problems with it when I used with my first child.

I have been using the Ubbi diaper pail for the last year in our son’s nursery. After using it for about 3 months we noticed a foul odor. When we opened it all up we saw black mold growing in it. We thoroughly cleaned it, dried it, and put it together again. However, this kept happening. The lid is now rusted and the mold keeps coming back. We’ve tried a variety of products to keep the smell and mold at bay. I just ordered a Diaper Genie to replace our Ubbi. I’m disappointed because I loved the color and look of the product, but it seems like there’s no way to keep the moisture from hitting the lid and causing the mold and smell to come back. I hope you can solve this major design flaw.

Don’t be lured in by the “use any bag” nonsense. Yes, you can use any garbage bag you want, but it also means it’s just a regular garbage pail with a lid. The smells don’t get sealed in like with a regular diaper pail and bags that create a suction around the stink.

The handle just broke off after 17 months of use. Disappointed it didn't last through one child. Part of the lid also chipped within a year. It also smells sooo bad once our baby started solids LOL. Does not keep the smell contained. If you go with this one, just make sure you switch the bag out more than weekly, which we do not. So that one might be more of a user error. Love the look of it and the lock is really nice with a curious toddler. Just disappointed in the quality of the lid.

We have been using this pail for 6 months & from month 3 it smelled gross. I have cleaned it, we use Ubbi brand bags AND even the ubbi brand scent absorbers. The pail is closed tightly & it smells up the nursery. Would not recommend.

Love the size of pail and convenience but after a couple of months it stinks so bad. I have cleaned it multiple times without any luck. I took it apart and I believe the smell is imbedded in the rubber seal. I can not get the smell out nor find a replacement.

It only lasts a couple of years didn’t make it with two kids- had to order a replacement for the inside and it rusts on the inside and turns a yellow color. Breaks when you lift it. They stop warranty after a year or so. Would not recommend.
