Description

Onion is one of the most important culinary ingredients in every kitchen. Its characteristic strong flavor when raw makes it a great addition to salads. Its sweet flavor when cooked is a key element for meats, poultry, seafood and all kinds of side dishes. The company was started by José Badía, a Cuban exile who fled the island nation in the 1960s. Though he had a hardware business in Cuba, started the spice business in a small shop in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. In 1970, José hired his son, Joseph "Pepe", to manage daily operations, and "Pepe" is now the majority owner and president of Badia Spices, Inc.Today, Badia Spices sells over 120 products, including raw spices and herbs, blended spices, and dried chili peppers, throughout the United States and more than 70 other countries.

Horrible smell

Looks like this brand of onion powder is bad from Badia. I ordered one and when I opened it it had a disgusting smell. I asked for a replacement. Second one smelled exactly the same. They both are part of the same Lot# and have the same expiration date. The powder smells so bad. No where near what onion powder should smell like. A recall might need to take place. Both smell spoiled, bad, maybe moldy.

Love It

Adds great flavor. I just don't know if it has any flavor enhancing ingredients that I do not want like monosidium glutamate. Some are sneaked in and are represented under the name "Other spices." This is why I rated it a 4 instead of 5

I was hesitant because I was unfamiliar with the brand

I'm glad I went ahead and tried it. It has a decent taste and much less expensive than many other brands. I tried a much more expensive brand some time ago and I like the taste of this better that I liked that one. I plan to try some of this brand's other products.
