Q: Can you cook these in a skillet/fry pan? Or do you have to use an oven?

submitted by vikkr - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! Thank you for asking! Here are some cooking instructions for the stove top: Stovetop: Heat skillet on medium heat. Brown the outside of the meatballs for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally. Then, lower the temperature to medium-low, add ¼ cup water, or enough water to cover the bottom of the pan, and cover for about 15-18 minutes until a minimum inside temperature of 165°F is reached. (For best results, cook until 185°F.) Stovetop with tomato sauce: Heat skillet on medium heat. Brown the outside of the meatballs for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally. Then, lower the temperature to medium-low, add about 12 oz. or 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce, and cover for about 20-26 minutes until a minimum inside temperature of 165°F is reached. (For best results, cook until 185°F.) Thank you for choosing Carando and Smithfield Foods!

Decent meatball but too much salt

Good meatballs but too much salt for me. I noticed extreme salt the last two times I made spaghetti and meatballs. Less is more people.

I wish you would change the packaging

These are great meatballs but PLEASE CHANGE THE PACKAGING! The frozen meatballs always stick to the styrofoam. Even when I let them defrost it can still see black pieces on the meat I have to cut off. Please find a better solution

So….much….salt!!!

First bite is flavorful and then you get the salt! Ridiculous amount of salt. So salty!! I could not finish the meatball. I don’t know. I will have to probably throw out the other package that I bought. Not edible with all that salt. Can get a refund?

Like our mother’s meatballs

The quality of the meat, seasonal ingredients in the Abruzzese meatballs was excellent. When cooked low and slow in sauce in my crockpot they made a tender flavorful meal.

Can zero stars be a thing

Chewy, rubbery, didn’t feel like I was eating meat. I only can to this site to see the ingredients list and I’m not surprised I just consumed preservatives that are ban in most countries. I am not feeling well. This company should be ashamed. DO BETTER!

Very little taste and baked them to desired temperature and time, the texture is like cutting a rubber ball.

Disgusting

I don't often write reviews, but these are the nastiest "meatballs" I've ever had. I was looking for a quick dinner and these were on sale. Now I know why. The texture was that of a rubber ball. you bite into it expecting a meatball, but you get sausage? A dense and rubbery sausage ball.

This is just casing-less sausage

You could say that these are meatballs. They are meat and in the shape of a ball. This is just casing-less sausage. After cooking theses “meatballs” they have the same consistency as a piece of cooked sausage. That means they have at least 20% fat in them. I’m guessing it’s over 30% by the consistency. If they were made correctly, there would have been some ground beef in the mix and there wouldn’t be at least 20% of fat in the mix. These are just made of pork. You can make the same thing by balling up Bob Evans tube sausage or buy cheap store brand sausage and taking the casing off. Sorry but no going to be a returning customer.

Awful

Disgusting. Would give zero stars. Rubbery and the smell while cooking was nauseating. Took one bite and stopped there.

I like that it doesn’t have a lot gluten in it, the taste can be salty and sausage like. The packaging is good from the store I got.

Better to play tennis with than to eat

The only flavor I tasted in these meatballs was anise which I don't like there was no other flavor no salt pepper nothing and they say they have no fillers and I guess they don't they're red in color yet it's supposed to be pork since when is pork red I thought it was the other white meat I'm also pretty sure I got food poisoning from them so all in all I would say don't buy them they're horrible it should be against the law to sell them

Better than expected from a meatball snob!

I needed a quick Italian fix for a Sunday afternoon dinner, post Thanksgiving so I did not want to start cooking again. I liked the ingredients...no soy, and no gluten is a plus. I am a self-proclaimed meatball snob. I believe that the worst homemade can top a store bought (usually frozen).. They are usually so full of filler, salt and garlic powder, that it's just gross. I cooked them in the air fryer before added to some tomato sauce to simmer a bit. I was pleasantly surprised. They're kind of bouncy which is not a bad thing. Not too big, not to small. You can see immediately that there is no filler...all meat. Beef and pork... They are Abruzzese style afterall.(like me). I think I sense a hint of fennel, which I love but it may just be the porkiness. Ingredients say dehydrated parsley which I did not detect, but is a must in any Italian meat ball. I thought they were a tad overerly salted so I will take off a star for that. Price point was good for the quality I received. I will purchase again and maybe try the other varieties. Sure beats any frozen I've tried

styrofoam packaging was left attached to meatballs

The meatballs are very good, however, I had to scrape off the black styrofoam from each meatball after removing from the styrofoam packaging.

Great Taste - HORRIBLE Packinging

Like the title says - great taste but they NEED to be in a simple plastic bag - NOT this horrible plastic packinging. Difficult to remove without getting frostbite and leaving parts of it on the meatballs which then need to be scraped off. Also, not keen on the added chemicals to preserve the product. For the above two reason, I would not consider buying again until they are resolved!
