Fire hazard
This lamp gets way too hot to allow for use in any tween/child room. You cannot set it near anything because the exterior will melt or scorch wood/plastic. The glass does not attach to the base. My daughter reported it was sparking last night and her room smelled of smoke. I immediately unplugged it and when I took the glass off the top-the bulb itself was melting!

The base and cap on this vary, some had colors that were lighter and some that were extremely dark, I found one that was the middle. As with all lava lamps, they do get hot, SMH. I had been hesitant on grabbing this one (base/cap colors varies), but glad I did. Globe wasn't cloudy, lava has a great flow, extremely happy with it.

Disappointed with this. I've been talking up lava lamps to my kids forever. So we suprised them with this for christmas. It doesn't work. Just stays in the same position no matter how long you leave it on. I dont know if they just don't make them how they used to, or if we got a faulty one. Reading the other reviews makes me think this is just not a good choice. Save your money and get something else.

Like other recent reviewers, I purchased this lamp and while it worked as expected after the initial warm up and one subsequent use, on the third and subsequent attempts the “lava” remained in a lump at the base. I had gotten rid of the packaging but decided to return it anyway and it was accepted as defective. I purchased a second one which appears to have worked for the initial warm up so we’ll see if we can make it past 2 uses this time.
