Description

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% is a prescription-strength retinoid acne treatment. This oil-free, fragrance-free acne treatment contains adapalene gel, a dermatologist recommended retinoid. Retinoids are recommended by dermatologists to help clear and prevent blackheads, whiteheads, clogged pores, and acne blemishes. This non-greasy, gel-like texture is quickly absorbed into skin. Dermatologist developed and tested. Suitable for children 12 years and up. If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a doctor before use.
How to Apply: Use once daily. Clean the skin gently and pat dry before applying product. Cover the entire affected area with a thin layer. For example, if your acne is on the face, apply the product to the entire face. Do not use more than one time a day. Applying more than directed will not provide faster or better results, but may worsen skin irritation. During the early weeks of use, your acne may appear to worsen before it improves (this is normal); continue use as directed, unless you get irritation that becomes severe. Irritation is more likely to occur in the first few weeks of use or if using more than one topical acne medication at a time but irritation usually lessens with continued use of this product. Applying more than directed will not provide faster or better results. It may take up to 3 months of once daily use to see results. For further instructions, refer to the Drug Facts on the packaging

Q: Can this be used to treat hormonal acne?

  • A: Hello Xac! Adapalene Gel 0.1% is a prescription-strength topical retinoid that is highly effective at treating various forms of acne by regulating skin cell turnover and preventing pores from becoming clogged. While hormonal acne is often driven by internal factors, this treatment works to address the visible symptoms on the skin's surface and helps to prevent new breakouts from forming. When incorporating a retinoid into your routine for the first time, we recommend a gradual introduction—using it only two or three times a week—to allow your skin to build tolerance and minimize the potential for dryness or irritation. It is also essential to apply a nourishing moisturizer to support your skin barrier and to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, as Adapalene can increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Consistency is key with this treatment, and it is helpful to remain patient as it typically takes several weeks of regular use to see a significant improvement in skin clarity.

Q: My son uses the Roche Posey medicated cleaner, clarifying solution, and moisturizer twice a day. What step would this be when added to his evening routine?

submitted by KMitch - 11 months ago
  • A: Hello KMitch! Thank you for reaching out with your question about incorporating the Unscented Effaclar Adapalene Topical Retinoid Oil-Free Acne Treatment into your son's evening routine. Given that adapalene is a powerful retinoid designed to target acne, it's generally recommended to apply it after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizing. So, in his evening routine, the steps would typically be to first use the medicated cleanser, followed by the clarifying solution, then the Unscented Effaclar Adapalene Topical Retinoid Oil-Free Acne Treatment (applied as a thin layer to the entire affected area), and finally, his moisturizer. This order allows the adapalene to effectively penetrate the clean skin before the moisturizer helps to hydrate and soothe. We hope this helps clarify the optimal way to integrate this treatment for your son.

Q: How do i use this in combination with la roche posay vitamin c serum?

submitted by MC - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello MC! When combining Effaclar Adapalene with a vitamin C serum, start slowly. Introduce the adapalene a few times a week at night. Once your skin adjusts (after a couple of weeks), add the vitamin C serum on alternate days, ideally in the mornings. Watch for any irritation and adjust usage as needed. Daily sunscreen use is crucial. A dermatologist can provide personalized guidance.

  • A: Hello Cynthia! Thank you for your inquiry on La Roche Posay Unscented Effaclar Adapalene Topical Retinoid Oil Free Acne Treatment. We understand your concerns and we appreciate you taking the time to reach out. Parabens are a group of commonly used ingredients that act as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care products. They are highly effective in preventing the growth of fungi, bacteria, and yeast that could contaminate and degrade products. As part of our commitment to deliver high-quality, effective products, certain parabens are used in some of our formulations to ensure the safety of our consumers. Extensive research spanning decades has confirmed the parabens in our portfolio are safe at the concentrations we use. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates the personal care industry, upholds these findings. While we take great care in evaluating each ingredient we use and are confident in our products’ safety, we know there is public conversation encouraging consumers to avoid certain ingredients, as is the case with some parabens. Based on growing demand for products that do not include parabens, we substituted them for other preservatives in some of our products. Consumers can look on our products’ labels to see what ingredients are included. Additionally, as part of our innovation strategy we are developing packaging systems and new product formulations that are less vulnerable to microbiological contamination, which will limit the use of preservatives in general. We will continue to take a rigorous approach to product quality and safety, while monitoring consumer insights and preferences.

The La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel is light

This product is truly excellent made a huge difference in my skin in just a few days. My acne started to dry out quickly and I could see active breakouts shrinking and healing much faster than usual. The texture is very lightweight and smooth, I did experience some dryness, slight peeling and a bit of redness, which I know is normal with adapalene. But honestly, it was manageable and part of the process while my skin adjusted. With a good moisturizer it got much better. Overall, this product really helps dry out acne, improve skin texture and clear breakouts effectively.

    Great product for acne

This product is for all kind of skin type but is best for oily skin also combination skin and acne-prone skin. If you have dry skin or sensitive skin make sure you use moisturizer because this product will make your skin dry. I have been using this product for the past 2 months and let me tell you this product is something else. It’s the best I have tried. It helps to unclog pores, it helps to reduce blackheads and whitehead and controls the breakouts. One bottle lasts long enough since you only need to use little amounts.

    Try to trust the process

I’ve been using the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% for a few weeks now, and if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you HAVE to be patient. I haven't seen major changes yet, but honestly, that’s expected with a retinoid. The gel itself is super lightweight, non-greasy, and hasn't irritated my skin (which is a huge win). I’m sticking it out for the full 90 days to see the real results!

Hello demia28_4924! Thank you for sharing your journey with the Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1%; we are very pleased to hear that its lightweight, non-greasy texture has integrated so smoothly into your routine without causing irritation. You are absolutely correct that patience is the most important factor when introducing a topical retinoid, as it works by regulating skin cell turnover to clear and prevent breakouts from deep within the pores. While it is wonderful that you aren't experiencing sensitivity, a helpful tip to support your skin during the full 90-day transformation is to ensure you are applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer immediately after the gel to keep the skin barrier resilient. Maintaining this consistent approach, along with daily sun protection, will provide the best environment for the Adapalene to deliver the clear and refined complexion you are working toward.

I use La Roche-Posay Adapalene Gel at night after

I have been using La Roche-Posay Adapalene Gel in my nighttime routine, and my experience with it has been slow but effective. I apply it at night after cleansing and letting my skin dry, using a small amount followed by moisturizer. At the beginning, I experienced some redness and irritation, especially on sensitive areas, and my skin needed time to adjust. However, as weeks passed, the enrojecimiento reduced and my skin started to feel more balanced and stronger. The gel absorbs very well, feels lightweight, and does not leave a greasy residue. It also has almost no smell, which I appreciate. When comparing my skin before and after, I clearly see fewer breakouts, smoother texture, and a healthier, more radiant appearance overall.

Absolutely will work for acne and give skin a glow

When I was using adapalene I loved this product. It made my skin beautiful although I did need heavy moisturizer all of the time. I never really got past the flaky phase even when I was tolerating daily use. It cleared my moderate acne though so 5 stars for that as it was my main concern at the time.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% – My Ex

This adapalene gel is definitely a slow-and-steady kind of product, but it works. The texture is lightweight and spreads easily, and after a few weeks, I noticed smoother skin and fewer clogged pores. It’s great for refining texture and keeping breakouts under control. But—expect purging and dryness at first. It’s normal, but using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer is a must. Once your skin adjusts, it becomes a reliable, effective part of a routine. Overall: a strong beginner-friendly retinoid that delivers clearer, smoother skin with consistent use.

    Seeing results instantly

I’ve only been using for a few weeks but I’ve already seen real changes and improvements in my skin texture. I recently incorporated adapalene to help prevent future breakouts, and bring everything to the surface. I’ve been using vanicream gentle facial cleanser and daily facial moisturizer regularly and prior to adapalene, I had consistently been using the zero pore toner pads. I think because I had been using actives for a while, I had already tackled a large portion of my acne and gotten my skin adjusted to more rigorous skincare. Therefore, I haven’t experienced awful purging since introducing lrp into my skincare, just very minimal bumps here and there. I have however seen drastic improvement in my skin texture, much more smooth, less comedones, even skin tone, less drastic breakouts, and faster healing. I use this product with the sandwich method, which maybe isn’t the correct way to use but it’s worked well for me and kept irritation at bay (after cleansing, I apply a thin layer of moisturizer, then apply pea-sized amount of adapalene gel, and a final layer of moisturizer). If anything changes I’ll update my review, but so far I’m very pleased with results.

Didn’t see much improvement — not worth the high p

have combination, oily-prone skin and unfortunately this product didn’t work well for me. I used the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% for several weeks but didn’t notice any significant improvement in my acne. The gel texture absorbs quickly, but it can feel a bit drying on certain areas of my face. For the high price, I expected better results, so I don’t think it’s the right fit for my skin type.

    Transformed my skin (and confidence)

This product was absolutely transformative for my skin (and my confidence). I apply a pea sized amount every night (a little goes a long way), and I apply it after a thin layer of a light moisturizer as my skin is prone to irritation. The product itself feels light and water based. It has no scent. Packaging is meh, looks very pharmaceutical, not aesthetic, but with how well it works I couldn’t care less!!

Went up in proce $10 sonce July? Everwhere.?

Went up in price almost $10 since I last bought it in July. Not just Target. It was already more than I felt comfortable spending. Better off getting the prescription version through my virtual Doc. I’m so sick of paying way more than the value of a product.

    Best product ever

Holy Grail! Literally the best product ever and I have used this since I was a teen! It got rid of my acne without drying my skin. I don’t think it has strong scent which I love the most.

    Dried out my skin

I wanted to love this product so much because of all the reviews I’ve read and seen. Sadly it dried out my skin really bad… and I broke out way more. Maybe my skin was purging and then after it would’ve worked? Idk, didn’t see the hype.

Dont use hoping it will replace the spot treatmet

Tried this after I ran out of the BP Spot treatment that was discontinued hoping it would help my skin remain clear... in 2 days my face has completely broken out with acne I haven't experienced in YEARS.
