Origins Checks & Balances Face Wash - Ulta Beauty

I have been a loyal frothy face wash consumer for many years now. The product has been consistent and worked amazing on my skin. It always left my skin feeling fresh and clean without over-drying. In fact, I've promoted the face wash for years and have other in my circle using the product now. HOWEVER, although their new slogan describes it as "new look, same ingredients", I can tell you that is not the case. How do I know? I actually still have some of the old packaging face wash left and have the new packaging formula and they are clearly different. First, the feel of the cream wash seems more oily, second, the new formula does not have the menthol potency that the original package wash has, and lastly, the new formula doesn't foam up at all. It just blends into the skin as if it were a moisturizer. Very disappointing to see this happen. It was my favorite face wash and honestly, I'm not understanding the need to change ingredients to a product that has been your best seller for quite some time now. Unfortunately, I will have to go out to market to look for another face wash that works. Cutting cost can't come at the cost of the reputation of your best seller. Sad to see such an amazing product end its amazing tenure.

A friend gifted me this cleanser and I ended up loving it. It foams up nicely, takes makeup off really well, and leaves my skin feeling clean but never tight or dry. I have a mix of oily and dry patches and it somehow works for both. The minty scent is a nice bonus ó super refreshing to use in the morning

This is a great gentle cleanser that effectively removes makeup while leaving the skin feeling clean and balanced. It caused no irritation at all. I would definitely recommend it!

I'm 54 and have been battling excess oil and acne since I was in my teens. I've tried nearly every cleanser and facial care product under the sun over the years trying to find a holy grail product to give my clear, oil-free skin. While this product isn't a holy grail, it does come close. I received a free sample of this about a year ago, tried it, liked it, and promptly forgot about it because life is busy. When it came up during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty at half price, I figured I'd give the full-size product a go. I do use DHC cleansing oil to remove makeup before cleansing with the Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash. The texture and color remind me of good old Noxema, (If you know, you know) but with nowhere near the strong scent. It has a faint, slightly spearmint scent that isn't overpowering at all. I do apply it with a facial exfoliating sponge (buff puff, for lack of a better term) because I do use rx retinoid on my skin to help with acne and oil, and I do get the occasional flakiness. The Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash lives up to the name. It only takes a pea sized amount, but it does foam up nicely. I lightly exfoliate while cleansing and the lather is very creamy to the touch and pleasant. It's definitely a mild to the skin cleanser with no stinging or burning. It rinses easily and you're left with no residue and very clean feeling skin, but not so clean that it's been stripped completely of natural oils. I love the way my skin feels after using this and I find that it doesn't break me out at all. This really is perfect for all skin types as it's gentle, non-drying, but cleans well without stripping skin or leaving a greasy residue behind like some "gentle" cleansers tend to do. This is a pretty expensive product, but it should last for a few months of twice a day cleansing if you use a pea-sized amount each time. I recommend waiting until it's on sale again if the price point is an issue because it really is a great product.

The new dark green packaging scared e a little - but the same product as always is inside! Great face wash!

I've been using the face wash on and off since the 90's maybe. I love it. I always makes my face squeeky clean with out leaving it dried out. This is one of my Favorite washes and I always go back to it!

I have used this cleanser in my routine for over 15 years. It's the 2nd step in my double cleanse. I cannot say enough good things about it. It helped calm and balance my acne in my early 20s and doesn't dry my skin in my early 40s. One of the best!

Honestly… you had a great product that I've been buying for 20 years, but now since you've changed the formula it's not the same. Definitely a different product and not the same Frothy Face Wash… I loved this product now it's just like any other brand… so disappointed with it!!

I try other face washes but keep coming back to this one.

You just need to use a little tiny speck. It does the job and it doesn’t try my face.

I am 51 years old and have tried a LOT of different face washes, but none are as good as this one. The scent is light and fresh. The product foams nicely. More than anything though, it leaves my face feeling so clean without making my skin feel stripped or dry. This is a product I buy on repeat!

This is a really good experience as the cream turns to a gentle cleansing foam. Does not leave skin dry or tight. Enjoyable to use with fantastic results.

Really wanted to love this. This product definitely not what i was expecting. Dried skin out and left my skin feeling dull & waxy. Had to return.

Got this as a sample, and I'm not sure if it went bad or if it just didn't like my skin because it left a layer of residue on my skin that was immediately felt after thoroughly washing if off. I had to follow it up with an exfoliator to make sure all of the residue came off.

The new tube design increases value by letting you use all of the product inside It makes a great product even better!

I love it's foaming action, and the fact that it takes just a dab in the shower. When I use my Clairins face brush, it rinses clean of my foundation that I wear. I'm always shocked when I try the samples of other facial cleansers and find that my face brush when rinsed after use remains covered in foundation! How can those inferior cleansers even clean your face?!

I've used this face wash for a number of years after receiving it in a gift set. It cleans very thoroughly but without stripping, and smells lovely too. It doesn't sting your eyes, and although it might seem pricey, you only need a dab to get a frothy face wash.
